Shrek is a towering, green-skinned ogre with a Scottish accent, one that also possesses a mysterious background that adds depth to his character. On his seventh birthday, he was sent away by his parents as part of an ogre tradition. Shrek lives in a cozy swamp, his sanctuary from the outside fairytale world filled with castles, forests, and many mystical characters. He lived far away from the hustle and bustle of the kingdom of Duloc. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when the diminutive and power-hungry Lord Farquaad banishes all fairy tale creatures to Shrek's once-tranquil home. Determined to reclaim his loneliness, Shrek embarks on an epic adventure with his talkative and equally unusual companion, Donkey. Along the way, they encounter a host of other iconic characters, including the fierce Princess Fiona, a gingerbread man, Pinocchio, and a host of other fairy tale misfits.
