To be fair, I might work on a Rana skin after this, or at the very least, an edit of the Steve skin to mirror that of the in-game mob's.
Helmetless alt:
Steve (Dock/Indev) Minecraft Skin

EDIT:
Fixed! (the helmet and shoes that is)

EDIT 2: Little did I know, my skin looks similar to another skin which was made 7 years ago, by a user named Blaxor! You should please check it out! I love it a hell lot (even more-so than my own, mainly because it was made in the period when Steve was introduced) and he deserves a shout-out.

Edit 3: Re-de-lux-ed! I was staring deep into this skin's soul and I thought of the ways I could improve it. It's been a year since I've made this and I thought it would look good with my newest shading styles, and even gave him a tinier mouth by using a certain technique others have used.

Edit 4: I was trying to fix the skin up a bit

Edit 5: uh I deluxed it again, here's the original "re-de-lux-ed" if you're curious:
Steve (Dock/Indev) Minecraft Skin

----------

Original description

This is my first skin uploading to this website, and I've had a lot of fun making it, so I hope people would like it!

In case you didn't know, "Steve" was one of the names of the characters from late 2009-early 2010 Minecraft, when Dock was the main artist, and before he left the team. Well, not to be confused with The Player, also known as Steve.

Originally, Notch even pointed out on his blog that this was going to be a player model, until Dock was excluded from the team because of issues trying to get his models to animate in-game:

Also, I have a mixed opinion on how I've designed his helmet (and the shoes) on the skin.

Oh god did I seriously create this skin two years ago? Well here it is, I updated it again with my modern skin techniques (a bit more of a cel-shaded look, and color theory/shading).

Imagine how different things would've been if this was what road Notch had taken.
Imagine every skin you saw on this site looking different than what we see now.

I'm somewhat both happy and sad that this wasn't the road they took just because if it was, it wouldn't have had the same feel as it did now.

I honestly have to agree.

Minecraft would've looked entirely different if the player model was much like what Dock (and Notch at the time) was aiming for. I like the "purposed" chibi design by Dock a lot, but I feel like the classic player model fits Minecraft more.

With the classic/current player model, you can pretty much create any character you want, as long as they fit in the model. With Dock's, I'm not entirely sure how the skins would look, besides from his other test mobs he has created in the early Indev stages (Beast Boy, Steve, Black Steve, and Rana).
