Sylvain is the second son of Margrave Gautier and the only inheritor of the family's Crest of Gautier. Miklan, his older brother, has resented him since childhood for this fact, and the course of both their lives have been decided by it. Miklan was disowned and became a bandit, while Sylvain's crest makes him the target of much attention, shaping his social interactions. Sylvain's feelings of dehumanisation manifest in a careless flirting attitude, as he feels unable to form genuine connections beyond his status. His reputation for this behaviour precedes him, and his childhood friends Ingrid and Felix often find themselves responsible for fixing his messes.
