Nochtli used to be a leader of his tribe's warriors but during a battle was knocked out. His whole group of warriors were slaughtered without a leader and he was taken as a prisoner-of-war by the enemy tribe and then sold into slavery. The Sentinels Of Dawn saw him at a slave auction and bought him so they could free him. He was freed but told the Sentinels that he would forever be in the service because he couldn't go back to his people without being taken as a deserter and killed.
