As he walked into the lab where he was going to receive the next dose of the experimental drug that was being tested on many different subjects, he stopped by the guards entry desk.
"Hey there. Anything exciting happening?" he said nonchalantly as he has for the past few weeks.
"Not really. Just been sitting here like usual." the guard retorted with the common response.

"Well, glad to see that nothing has cha..." he stopped in mid sentence, looking at the screen behind the guard, not believing what he saw.
"What are you looking at...." the guard trailed off finally turning and looking at the screen. The impossible had happened it seemed, one of the cameras watching one of the rooms had been destroyed, but it had captured a frozen picture of the ugliest, most devilish face possible. Looking at the other cameras, the same thing seemed to be happening to all the other testers that he had grown to know throughout the weeks. The guard realizing it might be the drug, he looked back at him, and slowly reached under the desk.
"You don't want to do that.." he said as his icy blue eyes shone with an inner fire, the color of the eyes a side effect of the drug. The others have it as well. Like magic though, it seemed that what he said stopped the guard, and realizing nothing could be done, he needed to get back to his wife at the house, realizing that not all the testers were at the lab. Grabbing a nearby pair of glasses from the guards desk to hide his eyes, a sure sign that people may freak out if they see it, if the problem has spread out. Running to his house, he realizes that there is pandemonium in the streets, people running around and freakish things running along the walls as well as attacking citizens. He sprints quicker trying to get home, but his heart drops when he sees the door busted ajar, and blood stains along. Running inside to check around if maybe his wife had hidden, he gets attacked by this repulsive smell, and gags on it. All along the wall there is gore spread along it like paint, and before he can react, he is charged by the ugliest beast he's seen. After the surprise passes, he grabs for anything nearby, a lamp was close and smashes it against the head of the beast, caving in its skull and killing it instantly. Looking at his arms, he realizes the drug didn't affect only his eyes....

Flash forward five years, and we have our Tattered Survivor. Wearing the same glasses he had while ago, he gets by in the one thriving city where he used to live. But no longer. It is the main place for the devil spawn that were created here. It seems to him that they rarely venture out during the day now, preferring the darkness to hide their faces than to be in the light. This suits the survivor though, scrounging up supplies and running a small underground survivor group, and helping the few that lived. He is the only one as far as he knows that took the drug and did not change, although he doesn't tell the others that he had. To them, he is just an experienced survivor, but if they only knew the truth.. That each night, he has urges that he can't explain, and fights for control for his own body, as well as survival.
