OC︱#𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐓 - Yael

A single word echoed from behind the temple walls and resounded in Yael's ears like the crack of a whip, snapping her out of the familiar calm of meditation. Her fingers ceased their graceful dance across the keys of the old and out of tune piano, and her eyelids lifted, revealing eyes of a warm raspberry hue that turned toward the stone archway of the temple's inner sanctum. With the reverence due to any material object that allowed her to commune with the most sacred entity that existed in the same world as her.

Yael put down her instrument, rose from her seat, and headed toward the entrance of the temple - the direction from which the disturbing voice had come. She lifted the shroud of transparent silk that covered her face before ribbons of incense smoke and the rays of the midday sun stole her gaze for a moment. Before her stretched a magnificent city of stone, iron, and glass, bent to brutal harmony by the divine chosen. In the sky hung stately monoliths that carried and amplified the sound of the god's loud voice as he delivered his truths to the rhythmically beating heart of the world.

Everything worked perfectly together... except for that single, anger-bearing voice whose owner Yael now saw at the top of the temple steps. He was a young man of slender build and fair complexion. His platinum-colored hair fell in a subtle wave over his shoulders and his face showed a zeal that was accentuated by the fervor of faith in his gaze. The young man stood alone, dressed in rags.

People, wake up! You are no different from me - a sinless man who was abandoned by his creator himself. — The young man continued, addressing the wall of grimaces and menacing looks that surrounded him. — You are all being deceived by those who claim to have the exclusive possession of the truth. You are all orphans!


His voice took on a new, more sultry and venomous tone with every word. It didn't fit his narrative in any way, and it seemed as if his body was just a puppet. So who was pulling the strings?

It was Yael's job to find out, and her time was limited.

The young man gestured to the main courtyard and the many violent and abstract representations of the greatest enemy of the revered Deity within it. Yael was already very, very close to the heretic.

The woman in the black and white shadowed robe raised her great sword, gleaming in the light of the center of the world, which shared the hue with her eyes. With a single slash, she allowed her words to take effect, though she did not actually receive an answer. The soul flew from the still warm and pulsing body of the person, or rather what was left of it. For this was a demon who had not managed to cover up the traces of his sin.
