This block may actually be added later, as KingBDogz tweeted out that the grimstone will not only consist of the deep dark, and the biome will be added in later. So, there might be a lighter grimstone in the deep dark. I'm not sure, but this is only speculation on my part.

Mojang should've really just introduced both and use the Minecon texture in-between regular stone and bedrock levels of the world

I don't think that Mojang would introduce two different stones that do the exact same thing. Also they said the Deep Dark would appear low down in the world, so I think that grimstone is the only type of stone we're gonna get related to the Deep Dark.

Only one of the stones in the overworld can do anything useful at all. (As of 1.16.5, so not including grimstone)
I meant they probably wouldn't add two different stones with the same variants, that looked exactly the same with minor changes to their brightness, and that are found in the exact same places.

I prefer these colors than the original, the generation looks rough in the original grimstone
