The last few Minecraft updates have added new music, getting increasingly biome-dependent. This clashes with one of the special things of Minecraft music; that music plays randomly, with few exceptions. Many packs have 'fixed' this by removing the new music, but I think that is no good since the new music is great!

My solution here uses the sounds.json file to reorganize the music into larger, mutually-exclusive pools. This keeps nostalgia in most areas without removing any songs and being more random than 1.21. Is it purely random like in beta? No. I still think it's a better compromise, though.

Here is a text summary of the changes (See Modrinth for concise tracklist)
  • Overworld music (music.game) is only songs by C418. If they were in the overworld before Caves & Cliffs, they're here and nowhere else.
  • This includes other biomes separated out in updates like 1.19 and 1.20, such as the forest or the taiga.
  • Mountain biomes (all 7, base and peak) are most of the new songs from 1.18 and beyond. It's my general new pool, so if I didn't list it separately it is here. The mountains got a big overhaul which is why I am separating them for the new general pool.
  • Underwater music is still C418's Update Aquatic music from 1.13 and now also includes Firebugs, Echo in the Wind, and komorebi.
  • All 1.16 songs will play in all the biomes, instead of being biome-specific. However, the warped forest is still exempt. The deep dark tracks have been moved to the nether as well.
  • I did not touch end, boss, and credits themes.
  • There's now a much higher chance of playing the creative tracklist in creative mode. Said tracklist now includes Labyrinthine and Puzzlebox as well. The rest of the music comes from the main old and new selections.
  • The menu no longer uses songs for their novelty, instead having a permanent selection. As with the rest of the pack, separation means they don't play in the mountains. This selection includes Infinite Amethyst, Wending, Bromeliad, Crescent Dunes, Featherfall, & Below and Above.
Warped forest music (rambly)
Warped forest is an exception to separation. If you listen closely, you can hear very faintly the menu music playing out of tune. The idea is that it's a faint echo or some memory of hearing those songs. It should be quiet and unintrusive so you barely hear it. This is still experimental (although I will listen to feedback on anything), so I'd love to hear a comment about how the volume and pitch works out! =]

That's all. Enjoy! I hope you give this pack a try. =] I think the new composers' music is good, although it's sometimes more them than people want. That's why they gets the beautiful mountains as the location of their banishment!

THIS PACK DOESN'T CHANGE THE ACTUAL MUSIC! Don't be confused! ^-^

Definitely an improvement!

Of what I've heard of the new music.... its generally fine (with the exception of that stuff from the japanese dude, which I think blends far better than any of the other more recent stuff). I have a burning hatred for rubedo for how much i've heard it OVER AND OVER

Glad you like the concept! (oops, I have a lot to say, I'm too used to seeing full revert packs and already cut out a rant about Infinite Amethyst to keep it more relevant to you)

You bring up a really good point about blending, which is actually exactly why I banished almost all of the music to the mountains, probably the reason for the overcomplicated biome system in vanilla, and also why I considered certain songs to go different places. So it's nice to see someone else think about that with that word over just pitching the songs away (even though the 3rd volume situation really sucks).

At least your burning hatred for Rubedo is good because it's the Nether. Unfortunately, me refusing to weight songs means it's still not ideal, but you'll be happy to know that each C418 Nether track's weight has an 11% increase from vanilla so yippee, a w for this pack.

Still, since this is only a step in the right direction, I encourage you to go into the sounds.json and do changes to make a music system that matches how you envision the balance (if you have your account back). Nerf Rubedo, make every song Rubedo, whatever! The wiki tells you everything you need to know.

Or also you can just use mine lol I'm open to feedback to go even more in the right direction. Re-listening to the new songs while imagining new context can make the song more enjoyable (such as Labyrinthine, a 5 minute song with handpans and where have I seen that before and WHY is it SURVIVAL EXCLUSIVE of all things in vanilla) so I'm very open to listen again and move stuff around. For example, I should probably move Ancestry (got feedback, and it also improves the odds), but am not sure where I should move it.

Have you been playing the new versions? It doesn't sound like you've heard all the new songs.

So as I understand, Microsoft has slowly been phasing out C418's Music due to legal issues. Some say that they are trying to wean us off of it so they can only use music from the newer creators that sell their music fully to Microsoft/Mojang. So, what you did was reset this and fully randomize the track playlist like how it used to be.

I have seen various other resource packs that just fully remove the new music, however I actually enjoy most of it. But repeating the same Lena Raine songs over and over gets tiring when I remember the nostalgia of the OG music. Thank you for doing this while including the new songs, its as if this is how the game should be. What are your plans for the future of this pack?

Glad you like the idea and theory! I plan to keep updating this every update, moving any new music (they seem to think that music and a disc are a requirement for an update for some reason which imo is taking the wow factor out) to somewhere (mountains, water nether, creative, or menu) as I have done so far, as well as delegating music to any new biome events they add. =]
