I gave it some thought, and I personally don't believe that would work as well. I want to keep things that either look or function similarly, hence the soul of laz as totem of undying or the mod we are commenting on.

Yeah, it's pretty good to carry if you play a character that has an already good active, and you don't want the item pool to bloat up with actives. Isaac and Lilith are pretty good examples of this, since I don't ever find myself giving up the D6 or Box of Friends respectively. To contrast, Bethany might not be the best candidate for the trinket, since almost every active can be useful in some way thanks to book of virtues.
