What he did was look at how the old apple texture changed in 1.4.2 and applied the same changes to the golden apple (which Mojang didn't do for whatever reason).

Since he did not provide a download I decided to reverse engineer the image he provided to get the texture. And now all of you can enjoy it! The pack is made to work in 1.7/1.8 but will work in any version up through 1.16 despite the error message.
