You know how sandstone has that nice horizontal line at the top? It used to bother me so much that sandstone (bottom) slabs didn't have it, and the same went for the lower step of sandstone stair blocks.

Well, not anymore! I spent the better part of my afternoon fixing that problem through custom block models!

Now, the bottom half of stair blocks use the top half of their block's texture, making each step on a staircase look identical. It even works with corner stairs and upside down stairs!

Slabs use the top and bottom four rows of pixels and stitch them together. The result is a slab that looks the same regardless of position, yet always nicely aligns with adjacent blocks.

I decided to apply the change to all slabs and stairs instead of just sandstone. As a result, it not only works for all (red) sandstone variants, but it also makes Diorite, Andesite and Granite slabs look more in line with the Smooth Stone Slab!

Since all changes were made using the block models, I didn't have to touch any textures. This means it's compatible with any resource pack that doesn't alter the models!
