Universal Seasons is a set of resourcepacks, that allows you to choose between different seasons in Minecraft. The different seasons result in different colors applied to grass, plants and leaves. Since the seasons are biome specific, each biome features other color gradients.

Since it is using the custom colormaps feature introduced by OptiFine, this resourcepack requires an installed version of OptiFine. As the name already says: Universal Seasons is universal! This means that Universal Seasons is compatible with all resourcepacks, that use "tinted" textures for their organic textures. It can be used as an add-on and can be added on top of the preferred resourcepack, such as PureBDcraft, Faithful, Soartex Fanver, Dokucraft or any other common resourcepack. Of course this pack also works with the default Minecraft textures...

Probably not, since there is not really a good support by Mojang for vanilla colormaps. Many colors are hardcoded into the game and for example spruce and birch leaves use those hardcoded colors...
I have already made a vanilla seasons resourcepack though, but it is not universal and is only compatible with my resourcepack 3D CreatorCraft. It is called 3D Seasons:

Yes... But it is not that hard to install OptiFine...
Here I even made an installation guide:

Can this be used with packs, which add more alt blocks textures?

how does this work?

So this works by using custom colormaps... Colormaps are actually a pretty unknown feature in the Minecraft community, since the vanilla colormaps are not really practical and most texturepack creators do not touch these... OptiFine invented a new method, where it is much easier to create custom colormaps... You just pick a color for every biome in Minecraft and then you can apply those colors to different blocks! At the moment there are four different seasons. And every season uses other colormaps...

The Vanilla colormaps could be very practical. Temperature is on the X-axis and wetness is on the Y-axis.
It's just a shame that they only use about 5% of it, so there is a lot of waisted potential.

All of your seasons look great. But I'm wondering if Winter could be improved.
I redesigned a colormap myself, and for the cold areas, I went in a sort of white rather than a blue direction.
But it's just an idea :)

Yes I know about the vanilla colormaps, but I didn't find any good templates for the current versions. And spruce and birch leaves do not even use the vanilla colormaps, which is really weird.
And about Winter I actually wanted it to be white, but then the world would be only gray and then I thought I use some "cold" colors such as cyan... But eventually I am going to make some more colormaps with different colors including your idea! :D

Clever. I wonder if this works in Chunky. If it does, you're my new favorite texture pack creator.

Thank you! And sadly I don't think that Chunky will render this right. I don't think it supports OptiFine features, but you can still try it and let me know! :D
