Do you love the medieval era? Are you a fan of gargoyles and illuminated manuscripts? Do you eschew electricity? (obviously not on the last one, since you're using a computer...) Well, Wolfhound Classic Medieval variant of the original Wolfhound may be the pack for you then. Filled with drab colors, carvings, and illuminated inspired textures, you'll be able to build your ideal medieval castle with this pack.

Why Classic medieval?
There's a couple different styles within what's called the medieval era. This is made to look like what everyone typically thinks of when they think of that time period.

What's with all the Christian imagery?
This is a medieval pack. They were kind of into that sort of thing back then.

The end portals feature the Christian emblems so prominently because I figured... if the nether is hell, then why not make them believe that the End is heaven? Course, the poor poor villagers have it totally wrong, but hey... they're not the ones jumping through the portal, right?

I can't read the font.
JOIN THE CLUB. But seriously, it's a modified version of a medieval script so it's actually more legible than the actual thing. If you can't figure it out after a little bit, you can always swap in the text from a different version of Wolfhound. I'm able to read it okay, but I'm used to it.

Where did the paintings come from?
They're from illuminated scrolls I did for a medieval reenactment group I'm part of. They span a very wide range of time and skill level, as I only do about six a year and maybe two of them can be reused for Minecraft here.

Okay, explain some of the logic behind the textures.

Food: I'll only explain the ones I don't think are self-explanatory. Cake: fig tart. Pumpkin pie: rice tart (I know, it doesn't make sense but I really like rice tarts). Cookie: pine nut cookie, thought it was medieval but I wasn't able to find a source on it, but they're tasty so whatever. Cod: it's cooked with egg. Potato: turnip tart. Sugar: honey, as that was used to sweeten desserts primarily. Rabbit: I found a recipe that had like a bazillion different ingredients so I just scribbled all over the rabbit chunks.

Plants: The rose is monkshood and the dandelion is belladona. I don't remember what the others are, but they're all plants I learned about when I took a class on medieval poisons. Yes. You read that right. It was an amazing hour of my life. The two hour medieval barber-surgeon class? Just as amazing but far, far more horrifying. I learned things that cannot be unlearned.

The rails are wood planks because there is pretty much no rail equivalent back then. Planks are sometimes used in areas where the ground is really muddy to help people keep their footing.

The pumpkins are also turnips because they carved turnips back then instead. I may have been pulled into helping with a kid's event doing turnip carving one year. It was fun. No one lost any fingers.

The shulker... just... what?

Terms of Use:

Because I get asked this stuff a lot.

What can I do with this pack?
  • use it in a Youtube video, include a link back to Wolfhound
  • use it in a remix pack for redistribution, include credit and a link back to Wolfhound
  • alter textures for a remix pack for redistribution, include credit and a link back to Wolfhound
  • use (altered or unaltered) in a map for distribution, include credit and a link back to Wolfhound
  • use it for any of the above purposes without first asking permission
What can I NOT do with this pack?
  • claim it as your own work
  • put it under any sort of link that makes you money
  • upload it to websites as a texture pack. In other words, don't go to some website that distributes texture packs that I'm not already on and upload it yourself. I need to retain control of this pack so I can keep it current.
I've relaxed my standards on what you can and cannot do with this texture pack because I'm making this for the community and I want the community to be able to use it and benefit from it. There's no advantage other than ego-stroking to keep it exclusively to myself. Just don't claim it as your own.

And make sure you're following the TOS of anywhere you use it.

Incredible work. Tried this out after using Heavenly for ages, but I notice that some textures are missing. Do you intend to continue iterating this pack for version 1.17/later? I love the aesthetic and graphics quality of the textures and would love to see it applied to deepslate, spyglasses, goats, etc. On another note, the texture for swamp vines is corrupted for me (shown as the black and pink checks that don't do much for immersion), not sure if I configured something wrong or if it's an issue you may want to address on your end. Anyway, I can't overstate how cool this is to me and I plan to make it my default pack, so it would be amazing if you would continue to manage and service it. Thanks!

Great pack! I love this one and your dungeon one I go back and forth between them. Hey are you planning on updating this for 1.14 though? It will be great to have all the textures in there.

I didn't see anything about servers in your TOS. Would you be alright with a server using a Wolfhound pack as their automatically-installed pack, or would you prefer having players download it from you?

I should update the TOS. Go ahead and use it. I prefer people to download from me so they don't miss updates, but with a server you'd be keeping it up-to-date. So that's fine. Enjoy!

Can you implement ctm or connected textures into this texture pack. Frequently generated terrain blocks often look tiled without ctm - even random rotations would do the job. I also recommend you use metadatas, which are unused block datas textured by optifine and can be supplied by any pack - The only downfall to this is your client must be 1.7.0-1.7.10 with Optifine installed. If you want an example of these game changing features go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsbnOcoFJlk

I hope this suggestion was useful; great texturers like you should know about metadatas as they really improve the pack as we see with Conquest by almighty Monsterfish.

I prefer to keep my texture packs as accessible as possible, and that means keeping them current with the latest release and not dependent on any mods. I do permit others to alter the pack for mods if they like, and there have been people that maintain mod-ready versions of Wolfhound. But honestly, the biggest reason for why I don't want to mess around with optifine is because I make these packs to improve my game, and I really don't care to use optifine at all. So it's not worth it to me to do anything with it.
