Level 35 : Artisan Artist

This is a personal project by Zack Simon (a.k.a. Jehkoba), influenced heavily by classic SNES JRPG's, and low-res adventure games. It offers an illustrated, painterly style that brings more vibrancy of colour and warmer tones than the original textures.

This is a full graphic overhaul, complete with new vanilla-ready 3D models and variable textures for a number of blocks and items including crafting tables, torches, ladders, rails, doors, grass, dirt, bricks, cobblestone, and more. Text has also been changed to reflect new textures, such as:

Wooden Sword --> Wooden Club
Stone Sword --> Stone Dagger
Gold Sword --> Golden Sceptre
Ender Pearl --> Warp Stone
Porkchop --> Crispy Bacon

The pack is always being revised, and I love feedback on possible improvements or bug-fixes.

Update #27 - Birch and Beef Ribs : 10/18/2017 11:50:44 am10/18/17

It took me way too long to figure out how to pull Birch Leaves off the colour map. Yet, here we are, and they're now a gorgeous golden hue. Also in this update:

* New Beef Ribs ---> Braised Ribs textures for our bovine foodstuffs. Many more food updates to come.
* Bedrock update to smooth those jagged edges and bring down the brightness a touch.
* Minor Flower Texture updates to boost contrast.
* Glass Blocks & Panes now with no streaking. (I keep going back and forth on this one.)
* And as usual, probably other stuff too. ♥

Update #26 - Stuch Stuff, Redux : 10/16/2017 1:33:36 pm10/16/17

Apparently, my new Birch texture failed to save with the last patch. Awkward. So, that's been fixed.

I've also made a new Glass Block, because I'm tired of diagonal streaks across the middle of my field of view looking out a window.

Thirdly, I've updated the in-game Arrow textures (Normal, Spectral, and Tipped) to match their icon counterparts.

Update #25 - Such Stuff : 10/16/2017 1:35:10 am10/16/17

A whole scattershot of tidbits this time:

* Inventory Screen tweaked to be less fragmented, more like the original (for now.)
* Mooshrooms were given a once-over, because good lord, were they broken.
* .Lang Files updated with Crystal-based advancements and a few little streamlines (Bows aren't supposed to be enchanted with 'Barbed', for instance - That's been changed to 'Recurve', and a couple other blips like it.)
* Birch Fences tile even better vertically now, because pixel perfection.
* New Clocks tweaked to make that little white cycle-marker pixel a touch more visible

I feel like there were other things in there, but apparently my method is from the 'organization is for chumps' school of thought, so... Other stuff possibly included. ♥

I just want to thank you folks for playing with my pack. :)

While it's something I do for my own enjoyment, I know I would have left it behind some years ago if it weren't for all your comments, feedback, and encouragement. It means a lot to me that people all over the world enjoy slapping my visuals onto this cultural behemoth of a game, and I just want you to know I appreciate it.

Here's to another 5,000.

I've decided the bookshelves can look more book-y. I mean, books have pages, y'know? Pages that don't look like the covers or spines, but leaves of paper. So, I've retextured all the bookshelf variations to show paper where you might expect it.

Also, a few Language updates and a couple more tweaks here and there.

Update #18 - Tweaks Galore : 10/10/2017 3:56:10 pm10/10/17

A handful of little updates this time:

* Gold Sword is now a Golden Sceptre. Since good tools do as much damage as wood, and the wooden weapon is a club, it made sense to have the gold one also be a blunt instrument. Plus, a golden jeweled rod works as either a wizard's staff or king's ceremonial weapon.

* Minor Language updates.
* Poppies and Alliums are single-stemmed again.
* Probably other tweaks.

Update #17 - Paths and Stairs and Loaves of Bread : 10/07/2017 3:49:07 pm10/07/17

* Paths have a new texture, and now come in 3 variations.
* Cobble Stairs and Slabs now work with the 3 variations for their blocky counterpart.
* New Bread icon, because reasons.
* Probably other stuff.

Update #16 - Proper Cobbles : 10/07/2017 4:12:07 am10/07/17

Welp, Variable textures are taking off. We now have:

* 3 x textures for Cobblestones
* 3 x configurations for Bookshelves
* 3 x textures for Tall Grass (1 block high)

I've also tweaked the tools, updated several crafting materials, and fiddled with the text a touch.

Update #15 - Variance : 10/06/2017 1:21:22 am10/06/17

Just recently, someone suggested adding variability to the grass textures to help make the pack feel more immersive. I've spent some of today researching, fiddling, and troubleshooting, and as a result...

We now have three (3) grass textures the game will populate the world with randomly.

Learning how to do this was fun. Like, really fun. It adds a possible level of depth to texturing that's felt limiting up 'til now, and I intend to move ahead and make the most of it.

So, alongside revamping the items, several mobs, and a few more blocks, I'll also be adding variable textures to a few of the standbys, and expand from there.

It's about time. With the new Iron Ingots and associated tools, the bucket (or Urn) needed an overhaul. I've come up with a more bucket-like original icon, and... That's it, really.

Can has better buckets. ♥

Update #13 - Shulkers, Etc. : 10/04/2017 10:34:20 pm10/04/17

I realized after the last big block update that Shulkers and their corresponding chests were still using the old texture. I've gone ahead and fixed that, as well as tweaking a few more items.

Further tool/material icon edits to come. ♥

Update #12 - Big Item Update (Part 1) : 10/01/2017 4:39:10 pm10/01/17

The items in the pack have been relatively default-adjacent for most of its existence. As of this update, I'm going to start changing that in chunks, one section at a time.

Today, we have Tools, Weapons, and Basic Materials, all of which have been updated to match current world block textures (and each other) more closely. These will no doubt continue to fluctuate as other items get tweaked, but for now, enjoy - and lemme know what you think of the changes. :)

Update #11 - Flowers &amp; Fences : 09/30/2017 3:19:08 am9/30/17

Well, this is a thing. I've added my first original texture files into the mix, for fences of all things.

* All 6 Fence types now have custom models and textures.
* All 6 Gates match new fence types.
* (Mostly) all new Flowers.
* New Sea Lantern.
* Other minor tweaks here and there.

Update #10 - Sandstone, Villagers, Torches, and Stuff. : 09/24/2017 2:40:11 pm9/24/17

Even more updates, because everywhere I look, older textures are just not cutting it.

* New Sandstone Blocks, both yellow and red.

* Updated Toches and Redstone Torches to better match new wood and iron tones.
* Updated Villagers with more gender and skin tone diversity!
(Also, apparently they don't have a second layer of hair any more? This is news to me, and makes me sad.)

* Tweaked Pistons and other things (minor look-better-ness edits.)
* Tweaked Planks, Cobbles, Bricks, End Bricks, and more to match the grid and transition more smoothly.

Update #9 - New Everything (Again) : 09/22/2017 4:32:19 pm9/22/17

Another big block update this time, including (but not limited to):

* New Cobble & Mossy Cobble - Similar in feel, but better aligned to the grid.
* New Pistons - Because it's about damned time.
* New Planks - Similar to the new cobble, all textures now better fit on the grid.
* New Wools - Added a bit of rounding and depth of colour, because warm and cozy. ♥
* New Glowstone - Again, because it's past due.
* New Grass Siding - Looser soil near the surface, more compacted as it fades to regular dirt.

* Updated Logs - Brought back a slight shading curve to the edges of most, for the rounded feel.
* Updated Alt. Stone Tiles - Contrast improvements and better Diorite.
* Updated Bricks - Grid alignments and minor contrast tweaks.
* Updated Ladders - Just a bit more shading under each rung.

I might have missed one or two little things, but you get the idea. Enjoy! ♥

Some lovely human recently commented that they were "waiting for 3D doors".

So... Now we have them. Also, Iron Bars. Because a new Iron Door needs its surroundings to match. ♥

Update #7 - The Colours, Duke. : 09/10/2017 6:08:16 pm9/10/17

Continuing on with 1.12 updates, we now have pack-appropriate textures for hardened clay, terracotta, concrete, and all beds. There are also a couple little tweaks to a few of the logs, lining them up with their real-world counterparts. ♥

Update #6 - 1.12.1 (wip) : 08/30/2017 2:05:31 pm8/30/17

So, I've been under an art and design rock for the past several months working on my website and a new show of paintings. It was only just brought to my attention that, a couple key files (like the Inventory -> Recipe Book ones) were kinda broken with the newest update.

Therefore, those files are fixed! Still to come are the new block textures, etc, but things should be workable, GUI-wise.

Update #5 - Between Stone and Dirt : 03/07/2017 6:41:22 pm3/07/17

I realize I haven't liked the texture for hardened clay for some time. It looks too much like it's softer, malleable counterpart, and I found myself getting confused at times, even as the one who made the silly graphic.

It was also brought up that the texture for Gravel clashes somewhat against the standard stone. Considering the one is sort of supposed to be a byproduct of the other, that seemed an easy fix.

Therefore, gravel and hardened/stained clay have gotten an update (along with Cauldrons, for no particular reason.)

Update #4 - "100%" : 02/22/2017 7:13:23 pm2/22/17

I realize I'll be making edits to this thing for (probably) years to come. I'm upgrading it from 95% because, as it stands, we're golden. Everything works, and it all looks good. Textures that are only slight tweaks of originals will still be worked on in the future (horses and rabbits, I'm looking at you), but we're at the finish line as far as "in progress" goes.

If anyone has further suggestions, I'd love to hear them. ♥

Update #3 - Got Wood? : 02/19/2017 3:02:10 am2/19/17

Something was brought up earlier today about logs (Thanks to ThatGuyJake94) - the fact that they've got deeply shaded edges. This didn't used to be a thing when every tree was only 1 block around, but there are more large trees now than 3 years ago.

So... I fixed it. All logs should have a very similar feel to what you're used to, but with sides that blend more smoothly into each other, both vertically and horizontally.

Also, vines and stuff. ♥

I don't know if this shows up on anyone else's, but when you open your inventory the box to craft is not aligned. I don't know if this was intentional or not? Also this is just a recommendation, but I think it would look nicer if the chat had its own font instead of the default one. Other than that, great texture pack!

I'm not getting the same issue on my screen, Modernistic. I've just updated the file with this patch. Wanna re-download and try again? And, I'll take your comment about font into consideration, for sure. :D
It's fixed! Thanks! Also I was showing this texture pack to some of my friends and they recommend not having some of the food as default. They loved it otherwise! Thanks again for your time and effort!

I hear you, friend. That said, I don't really mess with the game code for this pack - anything that would get into needing OptiFine and such I try to leave out, for accessibility's sake. Thank you for the feedback, though. :)
Optifine isn't needed for randomized textures in 1.8 and above. Alternate blocks in vanilla resource packs use models like 3D blocks do.

I love this! The colours are very pleasant and easy for the eyes (for me anyway). Would love if the grass patch texture were a little more different to the default, they look very similar. Oh, and your tool shapes are amazing!

you have the best texture pack i have ever used. i am constantly going through texture packs wondering when i will find one i like but you have made it clear to me that this is the only one i will ever want. i am now learning how to make my own. it want be as good as yours obviosly but any tips and i just want to let you know never stop the texture packs you are so good at them.

Way to make a guy blush, Addict. :)

My one biggest piece of advice is, start with the basic blocks. Figure out what you build from them, and expand using your textures. Got your basic log and plank texture? Use those colours to define wooden parts of other blocks. Figured out what stone looks like? Make cobblestone something that could come from it.

In short, use the work you do to inform more complex blocks and items, and you'll build a really cohesive feel for the whole thing. :)

Also, define your colour palette to your own tastes. Things don't have to look the way they do in real life, so long as they have the feel you want them to.
