Before we get too far, I would like to say I would like to say I don't know the technicalities of making this possible. But implementing this would make previewing much easier and help out the poster to give a more accurate representation of their work.
So this is what we currently have for HD player skins:
Current:
The angle does make it very easy to tell it's an HD skin, yes. But when previewed while browsing, it really doesn't show the full potential the skin has (Arguably). Here's an example using my small side bar of my other skins in skin preview. Even though this image is zoomed in, the standard skins are much less blurry and easier to get an idea of the skin as a whole with more angles.
Example:
My solution is pretty simple. It keeps the standard angles we have with other skins, but still has a way to tell it's an HD skin.
A simple insert of and HD watermark could make a huge difference. Also, of course the colors can be different, maybe a semi-transparent HD warning?
It would be nice to stop treating HD skins as mob skins, and more like standard. So much work goes into these and they are as much a player skin as standard as well! Yes, java doesn't support them, but so many bedrock players use PMC, it would be nice to make all options look good.
set status to Accepted, assigned Paril. The four-angle preview didn't really look all that great on HD skins. It is something we have hooked up, though. The idea was to allow users to specify which preview type they'd prefer to see. We'll likely work on this when we re-render all of the existing SD skins with the new skin renderer.
Definitely agree. Also I don’t think you need a watermark or anything telling it’s a HD skin, since it’s actually pretty obvious judging from the thumbnail. The only problem which remains will be default skins whose resolution has been increased by two so that they can be posted under the HD label.
