Eve was walking home from school one day when she saw a black cat near a tree. She went over to it, and strangely, the cat didn't run away. She tried to pet the cat, and succeeded. Eve picked up the cat, and finished walking home.
"Mom, guess what I found!" Eve said. "Is that a cat?!" Eve's mom said. "I found her by a tree on my way home. Can we keep her?" Eve replied. "She probably belongs to someone, but, I'll put up found posters, and if no one comes to claim her, you may keep her." Her mom said.
She went up to her room, holding the cat. She sat on her bed and looked at the cat. "I hope I get to keep you." She said. "I have no owner, well, I do, you." The cat said softly. "WUT." Eve said very, very confused. "YOU CAN TALK?!?!" "Let me explain. You see, when you showed kindness to me by the tree, you allowed me to talk only to you. No one else can hear me. I am Echo, and you are my owner."
Eve was speechless. "So, my mom made those found posters for nothing?" "Yes, but hey, you get a cat who can talk in return." Echo quietly said. Eve said, "This is so strange. If I tell people, they'll just think I'm insane." "You're really small, you must be like a newborn if that." "I'm actually two weeks old," Echo exclaimed, "I was taken away from my mother when I was three days old. Unlike most cats, I have a strong memory, so I remember exactly how my mom looked. I was the only one in her litter."
The next day, Eve's mother came upstairs to see Eve asleep on her bed with Echo curled up next to her. "Eve, wake up, Eve!" Her mother said softly. "Huh? What?" Eve said tiredly. "Guess what? You can keep the kitten!" She said excitedly. "Really? YAY!" Eve exclaimed, even though she knew she could keep Echo. "So, what do you want to name her?" Her mother asked. "How about Clover, or Willow? Oh, I know, what about Sydney?" Eve replied with "How about Echo?" "Okay, and since Echo's your kitten you must take care of her." Her mom said.
Echo stretched on Eve's bed then curled up. "D'you have any tuna? I would like some." "Sure, let me get some from the fridge." Eve said. She walked down the stairs to the fridge and grabbed the tuna from the fridge. "What are you doing with the tuna?" Her mother asked. "Echo wants some." Eve replied. "Okay..?" She said confused. Eve walked back up the stairs, and sat on her bed. She opened up the can of tuna and put it in a bowl. She set it in front of her, and Echo came over and said "Thank you, Eve!" Echo exclaimed. She munched down the tuna and curled back up on Eve's bed.
