Hey guys,
As my second and last (I promise) blog of the day, I've decided to consolidate all the info we have about the upcoming 1.8 update into one, easy to read list.
New Blocks:
A good number of new blocks are being added to the next Minecraft update, but thankfully
not enough to overwhelm server shops!
Diorite/Polished Diorite:
One of several new building blocks that don't seem to have
any function other than looking good, so far
Andesite/Polished Andesite:
Another, seemingly basic, building block
Granite/Polished Granite:
I'm actually excited about granite. I hope they introduce granite
slabs and stairs in the future (They don't appear to be coming
with the 1.8 update)
Slime Block:
From what I understand, this will increase jump height, as
well as prevent fall damage
Barrier:
As a server owner, I'm pretty excited about this one. I see this
being used by a lot of survival games servers. The barrier will
be a block that acts like a regular block, but is completely
transparent. Not obtainable in survival mode
Iron Trapdoor:
Will act the same as a regular trap door, aside from the time
it takes to break
Gameplay/Commands:
There's going to be a bunch of new commands, mostly useful to server owners. I've listed
a few of them below.
/blockdata
Can be used to change contents of a chest
/particle
Spawns particles in an area, particles can be things like explode,
footstep, splash, and more
/execute
Allows commands to be run from the position of specified entities
And More:
Let's take a look at a few more features coming with 1.8!
Spectator Game Mode:
This new gamemode allows no interaction with the world; users
can move freely through the world, not interaction with any blocks,
and can even fly through the ground!
Enchanting:
From what I understand, enchantments will now be substantially
cheaper, and there are reports about enchanting having a
material cost, i.e: lapis
Villager Trading:
Villager trading will get a few improvements as well, including
experience from trades, and more useful trades in general
That's a quick look at some of the changes coming with 1.8!
I'm starting a standalone Minecraft blog, too guys! Check it out at: http://mcminecraftonline.blogspot.ca/

Update #3 : by nolez15 03/14/2014 2:35:01 pmMar 14th, 2014
Found out I can't bump my blog submissions. I'm posting this update to inform you of that fact, not to bump without bumping.

That should be pretty cool.
They usually release pretty quick after snapshotting.
So, as well as taking longer to destroy, they can only be opened by redstone.
