Take your time: This step is crucial to making a good stylish sexy looking house. Do not rush; building is not about rushing that's why in reality it takes quite a while to build a house. You will feel much better when finished building knowing that you haven't rushed your house.

Texture Pack: Again this step is not crucial but can help, especially if you are posting this online. It is recommended that you download a texture pack that suits your build say if you build a medieval structure you would obviously download a texture pack based around medieval.
