Nightmares. Screaming. Sky falling. What was happening?
Steve awoke in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. What had happened? He remembered the sky turning red, something hitting him in the chest, knocking his breath away. He felt as if he had left his body, ascended to some strange place of white in a void of darkness, large pillars towering above strange creatures. He heard a strange roar, turned aound, caught a glimpse of... something. He stopped rememinicing, he had to prepare for the night. He was good at that. He knew recipies by heart, he had been taught by his friend- Wait! Where was James? "James!? Where are you?" Steve yelled, "James!". He totally forgot about shelter and started walking, calling for his friend.

The sun had long since set and Steve was still screaming, "James!". Steve finally dropped to the ground, slmming his fist into the dirt so hard it broke and fell into his inventory. He remembered the mobs. Steve knew he had to do something fast, his lamenting would have attracted every hostile mob within a 100 block radius. He dug down ad placed some dirt above his head. He was safe until morning. But what of James? He might've already gone looking for Steve, maybe walking in the opposite direction. Maybe Steve had missed him. Maybe.

Steve curled into a ball on the floor, lost in thought. "What happened? Why am I here? Where is James?" He wispered into the darkness as if someone would answer him. He thought back to before he woke up. Somehow the memories were more vivid now, Steve could recall each moment leading up to now. Steve was harvesting crops while James was doing ironwork. "Gear's all done!" James called from the hut. Steve had built the work hut. It was their temporary base up until they built the Fortress. A huge wall seperated their mansion from the outside world, amazing towers and buildings scattered within the wall, all serving a different purpose. "Alright, I've got some food!" called Steve. Walking back towards the hut, Steve noticed the sky starting to turn red. Strange, Steve thought, It's supposed to be noon. Suddenly, there was a hole in the top of the hut. "James! Be careful in there!" A scream, cut off near the end. "James?" Steve started walking towards the hut as something hit the gound next to him. As he bent over to inspect the object, another small object hit the ground. And another. This was no rain, it was some sort of... meteor shower. Steve ran to the hut. Stepping inside he saw James, lying on the ground, unconsious.

His helmet was dented on top and his chestplate had caught a few small objects. "James! James wake up!" Steve yelled as he shook him. There wasn't enough time to make a regeneration potion. The small objects had stopped falling so frequently, replaced by the occasional large object. Steve had to move, but he couldn't leave James. He carried James outside and set him down. As Steve dug he could hear a faint rumbling noise, slowly getting louder and louder. He stopped digging for a moment and turned to look in the direction of the noise. A huge cube, 8 times the size of the Fortress, was hurling straight for them. There was no way Steve could dig a deep enough hole to escape it. Again, he shook James, trying to wake him up. All of a sudden, Steve was hit in the chest by a large object. He was knocked to the ground, pinned by this huge cube of red-hot stone from space. Lying a few feet away from James, the Meteor filled his vision. It was only moments away. The last thing Steve heard was the sound of the meteor hitting the Fortress, obliterating it almost entirely, and James whispered, "Steve...".

Sitting in the hole, in the dark, Steve had almost fallen asleep. Almost. There was no way he could actually sleep on solid dirt. He figured it was morning by now, so he dug his way out of the hole. He looked around. The place looked almost exaclty like where he and James had built the hut. He chopped down a few trees, grabbed some sand from a nearby water pocket. Steve started to rebuild the hut in the exact spot he had built it before. He knew every block. He knew the recipies by heart, he was taught by his friend James. So he crafted a sign. He placed it on a stone next to the hut. "In memory of James".

Months passed, Steve had collected heaps of ores and minerals. He crafted diamond tools, collected some obsidian and had made a flint and steel. He lit the portal and went through. As he stepped out, nothing could prepare him. The Fortress, though made out of some red material, was right there. It towered above an ocean of magma. Steve walked up to the wall, he saw something chisled into the stone on a white block, the only thing that stood out in this place of red. "In memory of Ste-" The words stopped, as though unfinished. Steve looked down. Lying next to the white block, a charred black skeleton lay dead on the ground. "James." Steve trembled to speak. He sank to his knees and mourned over his lost friend. He looked back at the white block. Then back at his friend. "Steve..." said James.
