A cold draft blew through the open glass window, slightly waving Queen Alinao s hair behind her as she gazed across the land of Destiny. The dark night settled as the minutes ticked by. As she sat on her bed, her silky dress wrinkling under her. The doors of her chambers sewing open, startling her. A man, about 6 foot tall, hurried to her. He bowed in respect of the Queen
.
o Frelon, what news have you, that you burst into my quarters without my consent.o She said, questioning his intrusion.
o I apologize for my actions, my lady. I shall take punishment for my ignorance, however it was urgent.o He huffed, panting for breath. o A letter, I carry, from Calrin. He commanded me to deliver it to you at once.o
o The why do stand here? Let me see the note.o The Queen commanded. Frelon handed her a slip of paper. Queen Alina unfolded the paper.
My Queen, It is my regret to inform you that there has been an attack on Brightvale.
The town is obliterated. We have found no survivors as of the time of the writing of this document. We still search the town for signs of life. Many of the buildings have been burned to the ground. I wish for your aid in our decisions in further actions.
Your Loyal Soldier
Calrin
Queen Alina folded the paper, laying it on her bed. She appeared unchanged by the news of the attack.
o Thank you, Frelon, you are dismissed.o She said, waving him away. Frelon bowed then departed from the room. o Frelon!o She called quickly. A second passed, and Frelon re entered the room.
o Mao am?o Frelon asked, sticking his body partially through the door.
o Run to the guard tower, find Averon and his 3 best soldiers.o She began. Frelon nodded as she spoke. o Have them ready themselves to accompany myself, to Brightvale at late morning Tomorrow. Furthermore I wish you to accompany us in our journey.o
o It would be an honor, my lady.o Frelon bowed, and ran east towards the main guard tower.

The sun rose, awakening an exhausted Frelon from his deep slumber. He brushed his brown hair from his eyes. Frelon sat up in his bed, muscles sore from running errands late into the night. He lethargically touched his feet to the cold stone floor. Frelon stretched his muscular limbs as he approached his drawers. He removed a dark shaded green tunic and his brown, rough leather pants. After changing out of his bedwear, he slipped his worn out boots and brown hooded vest onto his body.
Frelon, grabbed his satchel and ran from his room towards the castle kitchen. The marble floored kitchen contained a large furnace, several washing basins, and cabinets filled with fine dishes. As Frelon entered the kitchen, the head cook, Bellina, greeted him with her warm smile.
o Good morning Frelon.o She said. o Off to run errands?o She handed him a piece of an apple that sheo d been slicing with her knife. He ate the fruit, thankful for the food after a long night.
o No, actually, Io m accompanying the Queen to brightvale. Calrin sent me back yesterday morning with news of an attack on brightvale, and Queen Alina asked me to accompany her. I dono t know why she wants me to come. Io m only sixteen, I cano t fight to literally save my life.o Frelon replied.
o Well, Io m only twenty-six, and I am the head of the cooks.o Bellina replied. o She undoubtedly sees something in you. Age matters none compared to willpower, Frelon. Youo re mother would be proud of your accomplishments.o She tried to encourage him.
o I dono t know, ito s all crazy actually.o He replied. o Would it be to much trouble for me to get a loaf of bread or something of that sorts.
o Nay, I shall get a loaf for you in two to three minutes when the next batch comes out.o Bellina assured him. o Also would it be possible to get you to run one of my knives to the blacksmith for me prior to your departure? Part of the blade is bent severely. Vroonan should be down in the shop by this time. Io d have Anderas do it for me, but he seems to be late.o She handed him a long wooden handled knife. She handed him cloth and he wrapped the disfigured blade in it, and he slid it into his leather satchel.
After another minute, Bellina removed a pan of multiple loafs of bread from the fire pit. She waited, a minute or two for the bread to cool down. She handed a small loaf to Frelon.
o Thank you, Bellina.o He nodded, and left the kitchen. Frelon trotted down the stairs to the courtyard of the castle. He neared the gates. One of the guards greeted him.
o Good morning, Frelon. Off to run errands?o He asked.
o To the blacksmith, then all the way to brightvale with the queen.o Frelon replied.
o My, thato s quite a distance. Godo s speed Frelon.o the guard said. Frelon nodded, acknowledging the encouragement. He ran out of the castle gates and went East towards the markets.
Frelon neared the blacksmith, his heart pounding from the long sprint. As he approached the building, he stopped regaining his breath. He pushed the door to the shop open, the warmth of the fire, rushing through him instead of the cold winter air. Frelon looked around the shop, no one was there. Due to his time strain, Frelon set the knife on the counter, and ran back towards the castle. As he entered the gates, he saw Averon, Captain of the royal guards, and three other guards, coming from the stables with six horses.
He greeted them with a slight bow. They returned this gesture the same as he had.
o Greetings, Frelon.o Averon said. o You seem exhausted.o
o I am, truly.o Frelon replied. He let out a sigh. o Shall we be leaving soon?o
o As soon as Queen Alina arrives we shall make our departure.o Averon assured him. Averon pulled a ebony horse to Frelon. o This is Tunavear. Youo ll ride her to Brightvale.o
o By Tomtaruo s Grace! She is beautiful.o Frelon exclaimed as he stroked Tunavearo s mane.
o Aye, she is fast as well. If you are needed to deliver a message, you will be well equipped.o Averon said proudly.
Averon gazed past Frelon, towards the castle doors. Frelon turned towards the doors. Queen Alina entered the courtyard. She dressed not in her royal clothes, but in traveling clothes. Her black hair was tied into a tail with a cord. She wore a tunic and vest similar to Frelono s, but more expensive. A sheathed sword, with a purple gem in the pummel, hung on her left hip. The five of them bowed to her as she approached them. A boy carried a saddle bag on his shoulders. One of Averono s men took the bags from the boy and readied them onto a snow white horse. The queen turned to the boy.
o You are dismissed, Andlen.o She said. o Thank you.o The boy bowed and hurried off into the castle. She turned to the five of them. o Very well. We should depart now, Averon.o
"Yes my lady." Averon said he climbed onto his horse as the queen did.
Averon kicked the sides of his horse, and he galloped towards the main gates. The queen followed behind him, Frelon beside her, and the three other guards on each side of them. They exited the gate, beginning their seven hour journey to brightvale.
