Hello everybody, MalHarmonics of the dabigHarmonics here!

If you clicked on this tutorial, you must be a beginner of redstone and want to learn some basic skills. In this tutorial, I will be covering various topics such as using redstone components and simple command blocks.

First, you must uderstand how Minecraft works. Here are some ABSOLUTELY basic things that I cannot recall all of.

  • A redstone wire extends for 15 blocks only.
  • Repeaters can cause a delay up to 4 ticks.
  • Repeaters cannot give a signal from the side.
  • Redstone Torches turn off when given a signal.
  • Some others
Now you know, please do not comment on why a piston doesn't extend when given a signal at the front.

Now, moving on to some of the components.

  • Redstone wire: Carries the main charge. Can only go for 15 blocks.
  • Redstone repeater: Repeats the signal for another 15 blocks. Can strongly charge an OPAQUE block.
  • Torch gives a signal of 15 blocks. Turns off when given a signal. Burns out when turned on and off too rapidly. Can strongly charge an OPAQUE block. (Figure out the which blocks it can charge based on its position.)
  • Piston: Extends when given a signal from the side.
  • Redstone block: Gives a signal of 15 blocks. Can be pushed by pistons. Cannot be turned off
  • Redstone comparator: Its really complicated, I'll give further details about it in another blog post.
  • Command Block: Executes a command when powered.
  • Hopper: Transport items. Pauses when powered.

Some basic combinations of these components would be...

Inverter: Using the fact that torches turn off when powered, it can 'invert' a signal.
Clocks: Clocks are very simple mechanisms that make use of delay. In a second blog post, I will post a picture on this.
Gates: Gates, as used in real electrical circuits, can output a signal based on signals coming in. In another blog post, I will go into details of the various gates.

There could be many other things I am missing in this part as it can be very tedious to explain (eg. Monostable circuits that are used to control pulses.) so bear with me.

This is just the first part. If you want me to make more or go into details of any of the components or mechanisms, feel free to request :D. (I know this is very unprofessionally made, its my first tutorial too.)

Until next time!
