  I continue crawling on my hands and knees, heading in the direction of my bedroom. I feel something on the floor and pick it up. It’s not the phone, just a picture frame. As I feel it, I wonder which picture is inside of it. I don’t know – I can’t see it.

  I keep searching. Finally I find it, but then I realize something. I can’t see the phone’s screen, so I can’t call Jason. How was I able to talk to him earlier this morning? I guess I’m just so used to my phone that I can do it without looking.

  Suddenly the phone starts ringing in my hand. I swipe to answer and say, “Hello?”

  I hear Jason’s voice on the other end of the call. “I’ve been waiting for a while, but it’s not getting any better. I still can’t see much of anything.”

  I reply, “I can’t see either.”

  “Isn’t it strange that the same thing would happen to both of us?”

  “Yeah,” I answer. “What are we going to do now?”

  “I don’t know. You can’t really do much if you can’t see. Wait, that’s it! We both need to find someone who can still see to help us out.”

“Maybe our neighbors could help?” I ask.

  “Well, it’s worth a try, I guess.”

  “All right, I’ll talk to you later.”

  I decide to keep my phone with me this time so I don’t have to look for it again. With my arms stretched out to avoid running into things, I carefully make my way to the door of the house. I open it and step outside. Everything still seems as dark as before.
