In the Minecraft 1.6 update wool carpet was released, this opens up new flooring opportunities and other things as well due to its unique physics. In REAL FLOORS when there is a transition from a non-carpet material to carpet the carpet is usually a very small increment higher. With wool carpets the same is true, it is elevated a small amount above other blocks, an amount comparable to pressure plates. What wool carpets do dissimilar to pressure plates is it covers up the whole blocko s area, making it seem like a carpet and not a rug. Advanced players will probably jump at the opportunity and use this as floor instead of plain wool. Players less advanced will probably not utilize it in their house building. Wool carpets do take LESS WOOL to create than normal wool, .6666 for carpet as compared to the 1 for a block, so in survival worlds their use in flooring will become more prolific than regular wool. Wool carpets will also lend hand at creating more UNIQUE CHECKERED PATTERN because of their raised attribute. Wool carpets also lend hand to giving a more REALISTIC FEEL TO FURNITURE, making furniture that has always seemed too tall now seem shorter. The PROBLEM will arise though in making tables with fences, or placing glass railings where the floor will go from wool carpet back down to normal wool. Using wool carpet as floor and just that can also be used to SAVE SPACE in housing by creating shorter houses that have relativisticly the same height per floor. I also believe that wool carpets will become a material of choice in PARKOUR MAPS as they can be used to create platforms that are much less thin. TABLES are also an important thing not to forget. When using pressure plates for tables you end up with gaps inbetween each table pane. Now you can use carpet for your table to create a flowing table.





I am aware carpets cannot be placed on air, but for the duration of this article I described them such as they could. That was for the benefit of people or servers with mods that support more advanced block placements.
