First off, what makes a good name, from a bad name?

That's easy, one worded names like 'Minecrafter' are good.
Whereas names with numbers, x's, underscores etc. are boring names.

This is aimed specifically for Minecraft usernames, but will work more than well for all other usernames as well.

Minecrafter

_projosxhxx2_ Χ

If you have a name like '_projosxhxx2_', that's a lame name, but fear not !
that's what I'm writing this for.

Before knowing how to pick good names, you gotta know how to change your username first

1. Head over to Mojang's official website mojang.com/
2. Go to Account and log in if you haven't already (you must have a migrated account)
3. Under 'My games' Locate Minecraft and go to the far right
4. Click the text that says "Change"

Now comes the time, picking the name, I'll make a list of all the methods you can use to pick a good unique skin.

Method 1:

A name consisting of two of your favorite things, like this.

-Steakdragon

-Internetmeme

TIP: Try not to use names that include common words like 'Crafter' or 'Miner' etc.

Method 2:

One word names

These are pretty hard to find available, but if you do, it's awesome, words like

-Ghost
-Lantern
-Indigo
-Wyvern

are all extremely difficult to find, but actually look amazing once you find one.

Method 3:

Random three letter names

Although I prefer not to use these, they look nice and roll off the tongue quite nicely.

-QWE
-NFZ
-USB
-FAJ

TIP: Capitalization is important, figure out where you want or don't want capital letters

Method 4:

Letter play

Sometimes you can use other letters to make it seem like it's another letter. Use this method whenever, but it's a cool trick that I often don't see.

Example
You wanted to pick the name 'Minty' but it was taken, using an lowercase 'L' instead of the 'i' will make it look like you actually got the name 'Minty'

Like this
'MlNTY' the red letter is actually an 'L' but fits in, to make it look like an 'i'

Method 5:

Random Element Generator

This one is fun to use, I use a website called

fantasynamegenerators.com/metal_names.php#.V33yMvl9600

It generates unexisting element names, I use this often to pick cool names, all you have to click is 'Get Element Names' and you roll 10 random element names

Alternatively you can use a generator that generates actual elements, but chances of you getting one that isn't already chosen is low

Method 6:

Getting names from shows / cartoons / movies etc.

This is an easy one, because TV is FULL with different characters that have different names.

Method 7:

Generate a dragon name

http://fantasynamegenerators.com/dragon_names.php#.V33zcfl9600

Similar to the element one.

Method 8:

Pick a futuristic name

fantasynamegenerators.com/futuristic-names.php#.V33ztvl9600

Method 9:

Get your Assassin / Ninja name

fantasynamegenerators.com/ninja-names.php#.V33z5Pl9600

Some of them will be too long for a Username but the rest should be fine
(this one generated hella cool names)

Method 10:

Get your robotic name

fantasynamegenerators.com/robot-names.php#.V330Pvl9600

Method 11:

Arr, get yer Pyrate name ye Scallywag

fantasynamegenerators.com/pirate-names.php#.V330dvl9600

(Pick the one in between the " ")

Method 12:

Pick a Unicorn name

fantasynamegenerators.com/unicorn-names.php#.V330-_l9600

Method 13:

Pick a name based on a real location
(Preferably not a location near yourself for safety reasons)

I just used a random location finder, and got the Bismarck Sea, so a good username would be 'Bismarck'

include things like
-islands
-lakes
-forests

don't include
- very specific locations like US, Phoenix, 21 Jump Street etc.
- well known cities
- well known countries

Method 14:

Get names from other games
I play a game called Planetside 2 that has an extremely wide selection of weapons and items, some of which are extremely nice and well picked
- Manticore
- Artemis
- Hawkbringer
- Nemesis
- Emissary

You can see the full list here planetside.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons

Another example:

I play a game called Microvolts
that also has a wide variety of weapons and items
some are very interesting and cool

- Wellsfargo
- Espionage
- Pepper
- Hornet
- Abyss
- Nightmare
- Inferno

list here (Ad link removed)

Method 15:

Mythical Creature names

There are a ton of mythical creatures, you're bound to find at least one that you like and is available.

(theres so much freking ones here i swear)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_legendary_creatures

Method 16:

God and Goddesses
(this one is also very big)

simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_gods_and_goddesses

Method 17:

This one is a 'bit' common
but calling yourself something like 'Player12' or something like this is a good way to pick a username.

- Player12
- User1
- RegisteredUser1

TIP: Usually putting a number in a username is boring but this is an exception

Method 18:

Picking a number and writing it in word form

- Twentyone
- Fiftysix
- Fourtynine

Method 19:

Inspiration.
Look around you and pick a two worded name

- Tablespeaker
- Fanmouse
- Tissuecanopener
- Tunacanwire
- USBFlower
- Headphonetv

Method 20:

Ask around, sometimes, the most unexpected people can give you the best names, if none of these methods worked for you, ask your family or friends

I have another one:

Some word you used to say when you where little, a word that you still use or any made up word, everything is fine, even if it has no meaning.
Something like:
-Coyocoya
-Wowo
-Ecupalito
-Washii

I like making up words like that, they look real nice and you have fun making them, they do need a bit of creativity, but I usually scramble normal words (or make my little sister say them backwards). Hope someone uses this method ^^

Another method is to borrow words from different languages - most players use English as their native tongue, so there are a million names available!

For example, my favorite number is twelve, but "Twelve" is already taken. Plus, it would sound cooler in a different language because it would have that "foreign" sound to it. So, in Bosnian, I like the sound of "Dvanaest".

One of my previous names was an adjective describing me. Oh no! "Sleepy" was taken. Well, not in Italian, it wasn't. "Insonnolito", here I come!

My current name, "Gladje", is "Joy" in Swedish. You can get some pretty cool names just by using google translate!

Thanks for reading, hope you found a good name for yourself, if you liked a name or used one method for this list, please let me know. if you have a method that you think I should have added also let me know.

You could do your first name, and then a word that has to do with Minecraft (like me)

You could do something like JackMiner, Janecrafter, or Rob_Biome!

It's a cool thing to do TBH!

Like Gladje said, use other languages. Japanese is my favorite to use. My user is Koneko_Luv, Which means Kitten_Luv in Japanese. I want to change my name, but I can't figure out a new name. I like Shiba-Inus, Anime, cats, kawaii, and Japan. Any suggestions?

Kyattorab. Meaning 'Cat Love' but in Japanese, that's my suggestion, you can use some translator to change those words 'Shiba-Inus, Anime, cats, kawaii, and Japan' into Japanese and pick a name.

I'm thinking of doing a prank for April Fools 2017 where I change my PMC name and profile just for that Particular Day. You probably do know who that particular character is... :3 (My Minecraft Name won't be changed on that day though, because I'd be stuck as that name for a Month... :P)
