Hi everyone!
Ever wanted to create YOUR OWN Minecraft texture pack?

Follow this guide, and you will have your own texture pack in no time!
This is for Windows users only! Sorry! I might make more tutorials for more Operating Systems later.

Getting the Defaults

First, we will need the default Minecraft textures so you can edit them.

Click Start > Run.
In the "Run" box, type: "%appdata%" and hit enter.
Navigate inside the ".minecraft" folder.
Now open the "bin" folder.

Inside this folder, the file we will be dealing with is: "minecraft.jar"
This file contains ALL of the Minecraft textures.

To be able to extract all these textures, you need 7-Zip or WinRAR.
(I prefer 7-Zip, but hey, it's my opinion.)

The download links can be found below.

7-Zip:

WinRAR:

Once you have one of them, right click on "minecraft.jar" and select 7-Zip > Open Archive.
(I'm not sure how it works with WinRAR, but it should be along those lines.)

Now make a new folder on your desktop. This will be your texture pack folder.

Go back into the archive, copy ALL of the following folders and images into the folder you just created:

"achievement, armor, art, environment, font, gui, item, misc, mob, terrain, title, pack.png, particles.png and terrain.png".
(Note: The items above WITHOUT the file extention (*.png) are folders.)

Finally, in your texture pack folder, make a new text file called: "pack.txt".

Now it's time to edit! :D

Creating the Texture Pack

Now to edit the images!

You will need an image editing program.
Programs like Photoshop are recommended, but it's alright, you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on it.

However, YOU CANNOT USE MS PAINT!
Let me repeat myself,
YOU CANNOT USE MS PAINT!

This is because MS Paint does not support transparency.

However, if you need a free image editing program, try Paint.NET.

The download can be found below:

The rest is simple.
Just edit all the images of your choice.

The folders are self explanatory.

The "title" folders has all the images you see at the title.
The "terrain.png" has all of the blocks.

Before we upload it, we need to do one more thing.
Remember when we created "pack.txt"?

Open that up in Notepad.

If you have ever viewed the "Mods and Texture Packs" button in Minecraft, you would know under the Default texture pack, it says: "The default look of Minecraft".

You make that say WHATEVER you want, based on your texture pack.
With a limited amount of characters. I don't remember how much, sorry.

Save that and now it's time to upload it!

Uploading the Texture Pack

We need to put all of this into a Zip folder.
This is how Minecraft reads the texture packs.

Open up your folder, and highlight EVERYTHING.
Select Send To > Compressed Zip Folder.

This will create a new Zip folder in your folder. Rename it and drag it to the desktop.

If you want to try it out, simply place it in the "texturepacks" folder.

Finally, just upload it on Planet Minecraft!

I hope you all enjoyed this guide! :)
PLEASE, find any errors or things to add, and PM me!

Here is a texture pack I made with my guide!

Please take the time to look at it!
