Just imagine it.

My two favourite games of all time. And two of the most popular games at this moment. One of them involves a blocky, simplistic, peaceful world, full of caves and crafting tables. The other involves a vibrant, complex, deafening world, packed with weapons and strippers. Imagine if these worlds came together.

You get dressed into a denim jacket and oily jeans, then step onto a pressure plate, open the iron door and enter a busy city street. Leaving your house behind is difficult, as griefings are on the rise. Crime has been going up recently. The term o safe as houseso doesno t apply here. So ito s a constant worry, as no area is protected or policed, and anyone can break in. Youo re never safe.

With more and more people joining the game, thousands of dirt houses have sprouted up on the outskirts of the city. These areas are even worse than the slums, and you have to walk through them to get to work. As you pass down a busy, grotty street, you cano t help looking down all the tiny alleyways, gawping at the mountains of trash and dirt.

Many mad things are happening on the way to work. People left behind by the in-game economy, forced to beg on the streets. Muggings and rampant crime. But eventually, you get there, and feel safer as you enter the lobby of a large building. That feeling doesno t last long.

Cries and screams from the next room. People come spilling out into the lobby, hands behind their heads. Men dressed in black are close behind them, wielding diamond swords and long batons. They roar at everyone to get down on the ground. No one disobeys.

Everyone knew this could happen. Even a building as large and important as this is open to crime. Thankfully all the money is locked away and cano t be found (the burglars dono t know this). The only things in danger are peopleso lives.

Everyone is made to crawl slowly to one side of the lobby floor. There are a couple of dozen men in black, maybe more. They spread themselves out with weapons in the air, ready to strike. Down the corridors, they do their business, grunting with frustration when they dono t find anything valuable.

None of them look happy...as if they might punish everyone should there be no loot to steal. Pierced by their gaze, you cano t contact anyone without it being obvious. o Thereo s no way out of this one,o you think to yourself.

The men in black continue searching. They spend a while talking amongst themselves, yet never taking their eyes off your group. Theyo re deciding what to do.

They dono t get any more decision time.

Suddenly, a white-hot block of TNT rockets through the window, striking the men nearest it. They tumble to the floor as the block explodes, causing you to flinch. As all hell breaks loose, and youo re consumed by smoke, you realise: someone brought a TNT cannon to the rescue!

The men in black dart behind the nearest wall, but some run to the hole and seem to plan on attacking our rescuers before they can reload. But the men in black are too slow. Another TNT explodes. Theyo re wiped out. Ito s probably for the best that you cano t see their bodies.

The hostages waste no time. They crawl across the floor as more TNT is fired in, but the attackers are blinded by smoke now. They cano t see the men in black. You see them out of the corner of your eye, flashing their swords at the hostages. Failing to find shelter, theyo re killed by the men in black. You avert your eyes as more gruesome deaths occur.

There must be multiple cannons. More and more TNT is fired in. Why do this when they cano t see their targets?

Ito s too late. Youo re trapped. A solid wall on two sides, men in black and dead ends on the other side. A wall of bodies is mounting up. Rubble and smoke everywhere, choking you off.

The roof comes down. Gravel and sand - on top of you. Youo re squashed. Sealed in a tomb. Then the TNT finally strikes. It does the rest of the work.

You respawn in your house, amazed. Not just at the realism of the graphics, but also at the drama of your death. A world where everyone can mine, craft, work, play, or live a life of crime is fun after all. Even if youo re on the receiving end of that crime.

You quickly decide; this is the best game ever.

This is only a brief look at what Grand Theft Minecraft would be like. In my mind, anyway. What would it be like in your mind?
