Hello everyone, I am here to talk about a topic that I hold close to my heart: Hackers. Modded Clients, Xray, the lot of it.
Now, when I mention those things, people normally cringe, saying: "Oohh I hate hackers. They all need to die". I can tell you that this message is authentic.
However, not all hackers are bad. (I'm serious) how you can determine if a hacker is bad or not, is just by thinking about what they are actually hacking/modding. This can determine if they are a white hat or a black hat hacker.
A "White Hat" is a term used for nice/good hackers. These chaps use their knowledge for good outcomes, such as enhancing the game (as long as everyone likes it) DDoSing a potential threat to others, or taking down another hacker.
A "Black Hat" is a term for the mean/evil hackers. These are the guys most people classify all hackers as, which is not the case. Black Hat hackers hack into games, websites, and other players for personal game. Someone who uses modded clients to grief/make the game unenjoyable for other people, is a slight variation of a Black Hat hacker.
Now, I am not saying I have hacked into websites, games, etc. Nor am I saying that I advice such activities. But I AM saying that when people talk to you about hackers, don't instantly think they are bad people. In fact, being a hacker is a type of job that pays. How you may ask?
The company Microsoft employs "Blue Hat Hackers". Whose job involves attempting to hack into Microsoft's security and programs, in an attempt to crash them. This job can actually pay quite well.
And NOW we get into something that makes me very, very, VERY angry:
Kids/"Noobs" who get a mod client such as nodus, go onto a server, turn on xray and be like: "LOL IMMA HACKER". No. Just... no.
Some of you may have heard of the hacking group "Anonymous". They are basically "Hacktivists", they hack in a social matter, to get their point across. This group is in fact very nice, as they do not violate security of others. They are attempting to get into the governments site and change it for the good. Since I'm Canadian, I don't really know much about USA drama/matters.
And finally, I'll tell you how to protect yourself against hackers/modders
For your server:
Install a anti-hack client, simple as that. Most of the good ones, will be able to detect if a player is xraying/flying/griefing, and can be useful
For your personal data:
Browse with a proxy and or get a VPN. Both will disguise your IP, making it very difficult to DDoS/ get personal information on you. Also, if someone tries to DDoS you whilst you are using a Proxy, the proxy will most likely detect the IP of the offender, and file a report. Usually resulting in the offender facing a charge.
So there you go, I explained this to the best of my abilities. Now, next time someone says they hack/mod, don't jump to conclusions, you may have just met a new friend.

A grey-hat hacker is a mix between a Black-Hat and a White-Hat.
Also, Anonymous fights for Internet Freedom and Peace, and yes, you are right, they are not bad.
