It's really easy to get a custom player head if you know the command.
Note: Everything has to be in the command, even the ",s.

Here is the simple command:

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"Notch"}

Here are some other heads:
/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"Dinnerbone"}

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"Herobrine"}

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"DanTDM"}

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"IJAMinecraft"}
You can also get items like chests or heads like a villagers head by tgis command:

/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"MHF_Wither"}
or
/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:"MHF_Chest"}

Basically just put a MHF_  before the head you want.
P.S. The MHF_ thing only works for items, not player heads.
