Getting OP on a server you enjoy playing on is actually much simpler than you think.
Just Follow these steps and you will surely get OP or a rank on bukkit servers:
1. Join the server
Yes it seems obvious but alot of people demand for OP on the server page, forums or were the server was advertised.
When you do join the server make sure you present yourself well this inludes:
- No bad language
- Compliments
- Act interested
- Dont ask for staff
- Dont ask if you can help with anything
and most important
-Stay on the server!
If you want OP stay on the server once you join it, it shows the owner you have real interest!
2. Dedicate Time to the Server
- If you want to get OP or a staff position dedicating time is VERY important. You can spend 5 minutes a day on the server but don't expect anything.
3. Get to Know the Community
- Owners love it when their staff can associate with players. Talk and play with other minecrafters and have a chat with the staff or owner every once in a while.
5. Play Nice
- Don't grief, curse, steal or anger staff or players! This is very important as it shows the owner you cannot be trusted.
4. Get closer to the Owner
- Once you've played for a while on the server, ask for his or her Skype. Chat with the owner on skype and you'll see your mutual relationship grow stronger.
5. Ask the Owner Needs assistance with the Server
- Instead of asking directly for staff, just say "Do you need assistance with the server?" and most likely he or she will say yes. Incase they turn you down, do not continue asking; it only bothers them and doesnt increase your chances for staff.
6. Show you're knowledge of the game
- Weather your chatting on Skype or just playing in game make sure you demonstrate that you have knowledge of minecraft itself and how to run a server.
- Don't over do it though. Bragging decreases your chances by alot.
7. Get some laughs
- Making a good joke goes a long ways. Don't associate pranking with this as it might backfire.
8. Have Fun
- This is the most crucial step. Get into the server and actually like it. Enjoy playing with the community; if not don't bother trying for op.
9. Continue Following the Steps
- After you become staff or OP don't get lazy, as your hard work will be for nothing. Keep spending time and helping out the server. You will keep your OP or staff position.

They joined about yr ago and have stayed loyal and active ever since. They even help to run the website now as well. Most of my staff have been apporved in teh same way.
Its okay to ask cause it lets me know you would like to help out more.
but,..asking to get it within 24 hours.. shows no patiince.
I generally have a 1 week wait rule on any staff postion. Espically since we use mods.
potential staff need to understand the severs ins and outs as well as the mods we play with.
but most of the points on this list will take you a LOOONG way in becoiming Staff on your favorite server.
Hacking.... that will just get you banned for life. so if you like the server, do hack.
you'll never get to join it again -_-
