I'm just going to get straight to the point, the reason you looked at this. Here's a color chat guide!
These are the colors/other cool things you can do with color chat! (Plugin needed)

This uses a Bukkit plugin called Essentials/Essentials Chat. It will work on most servers as it is a rather popular plugin. Others will use slightly different color codes.

No color chat in singleplayer. The closes thing to color chat in singleplayer is /scoreboard teams add then /scoreboard teams option color
and last /scoreboard team join It'll color your name in chat.
