I've been on a lot of minecraft sites and half of the people I've met don't know how to change mob skins to refresh their minecraft experience without using a texture pack. you can use a texture pack but isn't it better to change your mobs's skins in your own artistic way?
here's how you do it:
1st you need an basic image editing software. the software needs to be basic otherwise you will probably need to patch your minecraft using MCpatcher. there is a very useful imaging software called MCskin3d that allows you to preview your mob as it would look in the game.
2nd you need to buy minecraft. it sounds stupidly obvious, i know but believe me when i say that a lot of people use the cracked version.
3rd make the skin you want on your image editing software. you can't have your custom mob skin if you haven't made it.
4th bring up your minecraft jar. a lot of people will tell you to press start and type "%appdata%" into the search bar but it's faster to just type "bin" and click the folder named bin. then you will see minecraft.jar
5th in the minecraft.jar, open up the "mobs" folder inside the jar
6th bring up the folder that you kept the skins in (another reason why mcskin3d is a good idea is because it has a ready skins folder) and put the jar and the folder side by side.
7th rename the skin as the name of the mob that you wan't to re-skin
8th put the skin into the jar and it will ask you if you wan't to replace a file. click continue/ok/yes/other.
9th close all of the folders and jars and stuff
10th run minecraft and enjoy your brand new awesome looking mob :D
examples of what that you can acheive will be in the pics
not my best work but it's a good example
umm... just a small favor, can i get up to 5 diamonds?
