Is Addiction to Minecraft a Bad Thing?

For a long time have people been worried about becoming addicted to Minecraft. They've stared at their screen for hours on end, enthralled in their latest construction or epic PVP map. Then they've snapped out of a trance and suddenly realized how badly they need some daylight. Or at least, this has often been the case for me.

Recently a survey (conducted by myself) has revealed that Minecrafters spend an average of 15-20 hours per week in the game (rather than 20-25, 10-15, 5-10 or 0-5 hours). On top of that, most of them devote several hours to playing on PMC and watching Minecraft-related YouTube clips. The fact is, the game is so huge and full of possibilities that, although it doesn't necessarily result in o addictiono , it does suck people in, taking up a large part of their lives without them realizing the impacts.

It is true that spending too much time in front of a screen can lead to headaches and losing sleep, or not getting enough exercise. In the long term and extreme cases, it increases the likelihood of back problems and encourages symptoms of depression and stress, meaning poor performance at school. The consequences of this?

Considering this, ito s safe to say that playing Minecraft for more than two or three hours a day is bad. Full stop. However, is playing the game o a loto in general really a bad thing? If you think about it, all that matters is that you get whatever else you need. As long as youo re maintaining friendships in real life, getting a decent amount of exercise (that can just be walking to and from school each day) and eating your o 5 a dayo (which doesn't take up much time) then ito s all good, right?

I think so. I also think that playing a lot of Minecraft is fine if its something that you enjoy and feel passionate about. If it gets you through a day of work or lessons and you look forward to it, then youo re lucky you found the game in the first place. And if you end up producing some builds, mods, or even your own server, then thato s an achievement and certainly makes your playing time worthwhile.

I reassure myself by remembering that Minecraft is the only game I play. Therefore, ito s fine to spend a great deal of time on it as ito s only replacing the time I would spend on other games. And after purchase, ito s uniquely free to play. There couldn't be a better way to spend time. Therefore it is NOT a case of this:

Io m not saying Io m addicted to Minecraft. Io m not saying any of you are, either. Thato s just the most extreme possible eventuality. If you are coming to love this game just think about what activities youo re phasing out in order to phase in Minecraft. As much as you may love Fable 3, it would be better for that to disappear from your life rather than something seriously important, such as your social life, personal health or future career prospects. Dono t underestimate the importance of these things.

Basically, just do your homework. And do Minecraft. You can strike a balance between the two. Ito s possible.

I should stop playing so much, but I CAN'T HELP MYSELF. I play like 5 hours a day, but I still try to do my best in school.

Actually I may play minecraft way too much, but I still manage honors in my class. I still am weary of it taking over though. It kinda scares me how much I play it. It has definitely increased my stress level and emotional status of how easily I get angry... or is this just puberty messing with my damn head again?

Diamond for you my good sir *3*

Pretty addicted to this game, but I'm a nocturnal crafter. Doesn't really affect my life too much xD
Good blog though, could easily see this happening if you don't balance things correctly.
