"That must be a kids game. Look at the graphics! Why would I want to move dirt and stone all day? Where are the quests and loot and people?"
Those where my first reactions to Minecraft when it showed as a blip on my gaming radar a couple of years ago. I played the demo in my browser and really wasn't impressed. I was fully engaged in World of Warcraft so any other game paled in comparison. I think that was the issue, I was comparing MC to WoW when I really should have been letting MC stand on its own.
Fast forward two years and here I am, a new MC player, and I am hooked. I am hooked so much that I have bought some server space and am recruiting my friends and family to help me learn the game. I never though I'd find so much enjoyment in a game with such a simple concept. Mine and craft... the 8-bit world is my oyster.
I am planning on using this space to post about being a MC newbie. I don't think I will be building a Bettlejuice Roller Coaster anytime soon, as I am perfectly fine with a Cozy Cottage with my wheat and sugar farms, and some friendly farm animals. I've learned how to survive my first night and have many mining and exploration adventures to await me.
Stay tuned...
