The Minecraft beginners Guide to Surviving
The first night in Minecraft is curiously one of the hardest.
You’ll start with nothing, and you must establish a base of operations before night falls and the nasties come out to play (mobs).
If you don’t have somewhere to hide, they’ll probably kill you.
To do this, you’ll need tools. You have 10 minutes of real world time to do all this.
First day
1. Cut some trees.
2. Turn trees into planks. Keep at least 6 wooden blocks with you for later.
3. Create a crafting table from 4 planks.
4. Create wooden sticks from 2 planks, in a vertical shape.
5. Create a wooden pickaxe, get some cobblestone by breaking stone.
6. Create a set of stone tools, sword and pickaxe are essential, then an axe, a shovel and a hoe.
First night
1. Seek a place to stay for the night.
The most secure places are:
Mountainsides: start hollowing it out and then block the entrance with some dirt, or a door (6 planks, 3x2 in vertical)
Trees: climb on a tree (jumping on some blocks) and place some dirt blocks to not get attacked bu skeletons. You can link with other trees to get more space
Holes in the ground: find a place with enough space to see if there are mobs near you. Then start diggin down and then close the entrance. Put some lights near you
TIP: lights block mob spawning, put some near the door and in your room.
TIP: leave a single block pn the wall to observe the outside world, so you know when it’s light again.
TIP: don’t be alarmed if zombies start hammering on your door at night, in most cases they can’t break through.
2 Start mining. Don't explore caves for the moment, just dig down and find coal and iron.
General tips
Mobs spawn in the darkness. Torches can be made by placing one coal (or one charcoal) on top of a stick. If you haven’t found coal yet, you can still create charcoal by roasting wood in a furnace. A furnace is an essential item after your first night anyway, but if you need one sooner, craft one from 8 pieces of stone laid around in a square pattern, with one empty square in the middle. The furnace requires fuel at the bottom (you can use wood if you like), and the item you wish to “cook” goes on top. To make charcoal, simply “cook” some wood. The process isn’t particularly efficient, but if you’re desperate it’ll work.
Second day
1. Get some cobblestone with you, go out and find more wood
2. Find a nice place to build your new shiny home
3. Build a house of at least 4x4, put torches in and out, a door and leave a light source to see the weather outside
Continuation coming soon. Sorry, no time at the moment :(
