So as most of you probably already know, you can donate $10 to the people behind the useful OptiFine mod, and in return get a sweet cape for your Minecraft character bearing the OF standing for OptiFine. I'm sure most of you have done this as well.

Something alot of you don't know though, is that players can't see your luscious cape (or yourself for that matter) unless they/you have the OptiFine mod installed.

This is both good and bad for the OptiFine creators.

Why is it good?
Let's face it. Everybody wants a cape. But about 60%-70% of the Minecraft community thinks the only way to do this is to visit Minecon. Everyone who visits Minecon gets a cape, and everyone knows that if they have that cape, they went to Minecon.
The OptiFine cape is a cheaper way of getting a cape. You don't have to pay travel expenses, hotel room fees, and access into whatever place the event is being held. You merely have to pay $10.
This is good for the makers of OptiFine because when their users see that one guy swagging about the server with his cape, they're gonna want one. And they're gonna donate to OptiFine for that cape. OptiFine just earned $10+.

Why is it bad?
Although OptiFine is getting money, they're not getting new users. Their goal was to gain money for a fun perk, but what they didn't do is help raise awareness for their mod.
I don't mean to sound like I'm criticizing OptiFine in any way. I love the mod. I've even donated (that's me and my cape in the picture above).

What do I mean by this? People who have no idea what OptiFine is can't see that guy swagging about with his cape. If they could, they'd ask what it is. And he'd tell them about this great OptiFine mod that reduces your lag, patches your texture packs, and gives you a hell of a lot more video options. But this can't happen, because the cape can't be seen without OptiFine.

What I'm saying is, OptiFine should make the capes visible to non-OF users. This also may require an agreement with Mojang, though. For example, the guy who came up with Pigmen was given a bacon cape by Notch, but the cape was later removed due to fans asking for custom capes from Notch.
This is one reason why players don't get their own capes unless they go to Minecon or some other rare occasion occurs. Of course, OptiFine could be an exception, due to the requirement of donating. But players could also assume it's just another cape from the Minecraft team and start contacting Mojang in hopes of their own cape.

I personally feel that the OptiFine capes should become visible to non-OF users, but I completely understand why they probably aren't.

What are your guys' opinions? Let me know in the comments below.

Also, just by the way, I absolutely LOVE the Aether and I think there should be an Aether Cape if you donate to the Aether folks lol :D
