Let me guess...

You just started a Minecraft world, and your running low on stone tools. You need to get better materials, but your too afraid to go into caves, and don't want to switch to Peaceful just to get the job done? Yeah, everyone has been there. I have to! Here are some easy tips to go mining for your first time:

1. Get armor.

If you see a herd of cows anywhere nearby, kill them all for their leather. A Leather Tunic and Leather Leggings will protect you for the most part, but if you do have enough leather, you can make a full set of armor. (Note: Making a full set of armor will require 24 pieces of whatever kind of armor you want it to be)

2. Make a LOT of torches.

You can easily make charcoal using logs and planks in a furnace. Just craft them like how you craft a regular torch (Coal/Charcoal on top of a stick) and you have a light source! Remember to light areas well when mining, otherwise monsters will still be able to spawn in places even where light still is. I would recommend at least bringing a full stack and a half, in case you find a big cave!

3. Wood.

You will ALWAYS need wood wherever you go, so bring some with you! You will eventually need sticks and a crafting table or furnace eventually to mine up certain materials with iron tools such as emerald or diamond, or gold or redstone!

4. Combat.

Yes, you will run into monsters at some points. So always remember to bring a sword or two! I would recommend bringing 2 iron swords, so you can fight and repair them when they are damaged badly (To repair an item, just put the 2 damaged tools into your crafting table. NOTE: Enchantments will be removed when repairing items)

5. Bring a Bucket!

You never know when you might find some lava!

6. Storage.

Bringing some chests can help conserve space in your inventory. Before mining a precious material, always check your inventory before mining it, just to make sure you have a slot open to pick it up.

Here is what I consider a basic mining kit:
- Armor
- Some pickaxes (2 or 3)
- A stack of torches
- Building Blocks (Cobblestone, Dirt, ect.)
- 1 or 2 buckets
- Swords

Well, that's all I've got! If this helped, give it a diamond, and leave your feedback or other tips in the comments!

Not just a bucket, a bucket of WATER! How are you going to cross those lava lakes in ravines safely?

nice! i cant find anything needed for cave exploring that isn't listed in here! you got my diamond.
just one thing: to make a full set of armor you need 24 pieces of (your material here) instead of 23.
