Ello! I'm iSteev: web developer, web designer, and newbie Minecraft modder. Woah... My first thoughts when I started on my first mod yesterday was only of confusion, anger, and sudden impulses to listen to EDM. After watching what was over three or four hours of tutorials, and entire websites of instructions, I'm finally getting somewhere. So for those also new to the world of modding, here's some tips and links to get you started:
- http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/Creating_Mods- Start here
- TIP: Start with Forge and not ModLoader. It's going to take your longer to learn, but has many more options.
- http://www.pagetutor.com/common/bgcolors1536.html- Useful for getting colors for spawn eggs (just put "0x" before the color)
- http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki- You've probably visited MCW dozens of times before, but I just thought I would mention it (it's my most used help site for modding)
- http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Tutorials- Can't read enough of these bad boys
- http://www.youtube.com/user/TheGrovesyProject101- Awesome tutorials by a Forge expert
- http://techne.zeux.me/Techne- So you don't need to hand-code the mob models
- http://www.minecraftforge.net/wiki/Icons_and_Textures#What_about_GUIs.2Fcustom_rendering.3F- Use this format for texturing mobs
- TIP: There will most likely be errors when you export Techne into Minecraft. Don't worry. This is normal, and most can be fixed with hovering over the error and importing the requires.
- http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1281544-how-do-i-get-my-mobs-legs-to-move/- Allow your mobs's legs to move
- http://www.showmycode.com/- Decompile classes in your browser! Awesome if you did not back up your project, and lost the source code
- http://www.youtube.com/user/wuppygaming- More awesome modding tutorials
