Help! Anybody?

I need help with downloading mods, i can only download ones that don't need modloader or audiomod e.t.c., so i'm asking if someone can email me a tutorial for downloading mods please.

The reason i can't download mods is because when i've deleted meta-inf (or whatever) and have put in modloader then the mod, i get a black screen when i load minecraft...
