Nether Rising, Part 1: A Heros's Desendants

"Come on!" Eric yelled to his companion as he ducked under a branch. "If you dont keep up we are going to get stuck out here after dark!".

"Your going to fast!", Sam answered. Though Sam was a fast runner, faster than anyone he knew, he could not compete with Eric's ability to run and dodge through even the densest of forests. Eric had spent most of his childhood playing in the woods whenever he could, so he was quite good at moving amongst the trees. But ever since his father died in the War Between Worlds, he has spent his time helping his mother around the house. Sam was Eric's little brother who looked up to him almost like a father figure, and felt closer to him more then anyone.

"Mom needs the pork chops and we already got a late start today". Eric added.

The boys made a trip to the distant town of Eden every week or so to buy pork chops for the three of them. Though the town they lived in had a butcher, the meat there was far to expensive for them to afford. Gathering food isn't exactly an easy task ether, do to the fact that animals were quite scares in this land. So as the sun neared the peak of its climb, the boys came to the edge of an ever familiar cliff, and could see Eden down below.

"Now remember to be friendly to the folks here and say hello for once". Eric reminded Sam.

"I'll try not to". He replied, as they started down the cliff. Sam was not one for making new friends and disliked talking to new people.

When they finally came to the bottom of the cliff and reached the far side of Eden, they were greeted by some of the locals as usual, Eric always being friendly and Sam, always pretending to be too busy to say hello. Walking through the door of the butchery, the shop owner Ivan came up to them saying, "Eric! Sam! It be good to see ye again! How is everything back at home, eh?". Ivan had known the boys since they little kids and always loved seeing them.

"Everything is fine, just came to pick up some pork chops." Eric replied.

"Of coarse you are! Why else do I get up in the morn, and you bother walking to the middle nowhere we call Eden? Right this way". After paying for the meat, the pair made there way back the way they came, and eventually, back up the cliff. After walking for some time without a word, Sam finally asked "Do you think we will ever be like dad?".

"What?" Eric said, quite amused.

"Do you think we will ever be like him? Like go on grand adventures or fight monsters in great wars".

"Sam, I must admit, that you and I are nothing more then two brothers that live average lives. We are nothing special. And just because dad was great doesn't mean we are. Besides, the last war has been fought and we no longer have need to spill blood." Eric answered.

"Yeah I guess your right." Sam sighed, feeling a pit in his chest. I miss him, he thought to himself. And so, the two brothers walked on, not knowing that they are about to stumble upon a long forgot relic that will change there lives, and the land they live, forever.
