Port Forwarding Help

How do I forward my port?I want to start a server so my friend and I can play co-op together. I have my IP address but I don't know to forward my port. Any help would be appreciated.

1. find out your router model
2.look it up on portforward.com
3.do the stuff it says

Portforward.com has free and easy software that i recommend. Hope im not too late

lol this is REALLY old, i made this post before i knew that if i tried to make a server on my OLD computer it would commit suicide lol, thx for the info tho, im getting a new computer prob in December
