Hi everybody, this is my first blog. The title pretty much says what I'm going to cover: Why being an admin on a server isn't all fun and games.
Today's Reason: GUESTS
When you're staffing a server with medium to high guest traffic, it can be hectic to answer all of their questions, which is why my server pretty much walled the spawn point into a 5x6 cube full of signs that give any guest all the information they need to get started on our server, such as: the welcome, the general rules, the website, and most importantly; three signs right in front of them that tell the guests they must apply to build on our site. As an extra precaution, right by the exits are signs that tell you to read the signs behind you! Sounds redundant, but it is very necessary.
And yet, a good 90% of the guests, some who even read every sign, still seem to have the words pass right through their heads and the most popular (and annoying) question we have been asked throughout our months of activity is: Where can I build?
Others include:
-Why can't I build?
-How do I apply?
-What is the website?
Basically all of the questions they ask can be answered through the signs they're supposed to read right when they join our server, and still they don't understand.
When they do get to the website and apply, a mod or admin or even the owner will review an application, but some guests can be very impatient or rude about their application.
-I applied.
-Have you looked yet?
-Somebody look at my app!!!
-I CAN'T PUT IMAGES ON IT!!!
The most volatile situation can be when somebody is declined for any reason.
-WHY did you decline my app?!
-This blows, I'm leaving.
-Well FINE, I didn't want to join your server anyways!!!
-I'm going to make a big scene about me being declined, and even send a few messages to you explaining how mad I am about this, and I'll be sure to put in bad grammar as I'm doing it!
*sigh*
Don't get me wrong, some guests are really cool, and not all of them react this way, but the ones that do can really annoy a person doing their best to be patient with those who refuse to listen or comply. Some servers would argue that it'd be easier if guests weren't allowed to speak, but I don't think that's necessary. Fortunately, guests can't build so the worst we can get when people with bad intent come on our server is spam until they're banned.
Being an admin is nice but the bad cookies really test a staff member's stamina on some days.
That's all for today. Stay tuned for more reasons for me to rant about!
