Server Nationality...
I don't know if anyone has really thought about this before, but each MC Character has their own "nationality" No I am not talking about the color of your MC skin, but the servers your play on the most or spend the most time on. The server you play on really affects how you tackle a mini-game, how long you survive, but really mostly your style of architecture when it comes to creative building. For example, lets say "JoeSmoe" (made up name) plays on "The MC Block Server" (again made up name) and the server is known for extravagant, highly detailed builds, then people will assume that "JoeSmoe" is a really great builder even though these people haven't seen him build. Yeah I guess that would be considered stereotyping, which I'll get to that crazy stuff later. Recently I had a conversation with iRapp, the owner of Mithrintia, over this exact subject matter. He told me that he can definitely tell builders that come from my server, Pwego-Insomnia, just do to the style of their buildings, which same goes if they come over from Mithrintia, I can't mistake their style. But as the many and many years servers have been alive, styles and game play are becoming more and more defined by server. It's quite cool actually, just like as in AFK World (yes that dreaded place) each "nation" has defined ways to go about things or to live life.
Server Pride: Good or Bad?
Now once the players on these servers realize it, then the pride they have for the server they play on becomes a huge thing, either good or bad. I can't really say a whole lot about this when it comes to non-creative servers because I have not personally seen it. As time goes on and the servers get older and older, the pride gets larger and larger. It leads server build offs, competition and "flexing" as I have heard before. Another big topic that helps grow a servers pride is the amount off players they have on at any given time. Noww, like I said before it can be either a good or bad thing. I am going to talk about each. Why the pride could be good? Well like anything you work on or you puts tons of time into, you should be proud of it. My tattoo on my left arm has a quote that explains this perfect. It states "Ignore all hatred and criticism. Live for what you create and die protecting it." Just like nations in the real world, you should have some sort of happiness for your server, be proud of it, etc. It's healthy :3 Now where it can become a bad thing. Which some of this, I'll discuss in the paragraph below. If pride becomes to large, it will corrupt people. It will start affecting the server negatively with outside attitudes, on top off affecting the newer players of the server and such.
Attitudes towards Pride...
Servers can be really affected by attitudes. If your servers pride turns soiled, then people outside the server, other server owners, the big YouTube names, etc will start to judge. (This leads to stereotyping) Like I was talking about before, with "JoeSmoe,” If the server he plays on is known for being very egotistical, then other servers are less likely to accept him. On top of it leading to a drop in player count. He may not even be one of the ones that ruined the server’s reputation. This is the problem.
The Point of My Blog...
Overall, the point of the blog was to bring up the topic of server stereotyping, judgment and server pride. It was really just a warning to all current server owners, make sure you guys tackle your server’s pride, and make sure it doesn't get to big. The last thing servers need is a bad reputation, especially creative servers. But also people, let’s not judge or stereotype someone solely on the server they came from, or judge servers based on a few players you may have met. It’s not right, and let’s try to stand up and stop the online unkindness. Give everyone a chance, let your server grow. J
