I've recently been considering this. How forceful should server rules be inflicted? Should they be very serious, not too serious, or just not really layed down?
In my opinion, this all depends on the sort of server and the community. If it's say, a "Towny" server with a more mature community that's a bit more serious, obviously, inflict the rules more. Griefing and Raiding would obviously not be allowed on these sorts of servers.
Some servers are a lot more relaxed, with more colours in chat and a bit more cheerful. These sorts of servers don't always inflict rules as much, and they like to have a bit more of a laugh. Griefing and Raiding aren't always allowed on these sorts of servers though, they just are more than the ones I mentioned before.
I think it'd be a nice idea if when people advertised their server, they could include maybe a scale or something of how strongly the rules are inflicted? I'm not saying this should be a definate idea, I'm just saying it could be a nice idea for people looking for new servers to play.
