So, you guys might be thinking, how could I make an skin of a character that what make them so unique is their physical appearance, or his silhouette like some would say...
Don't worry, I'm MotivatedBean98 and I decided to reveal one of my secrets methods of skin creation. Of course I won't reveal everything but I'll explain step by step how to take a character like Professor Huyang from Ahsoka and turn it into an incredible skin.
And if you asked, yes, this method can work on java skins as well as on bedrock but as I have an preference to make bedrock Minecraft skins, so I'll explain it creating an bedrock skin. Well then, Shall we begin?
.
0• choosing the character + pictures reference:
The first step before creating any skin is of course choosing the character that you want to do. For starters
I recommend that you start with characters that have a more simple format but, I'll use as example Huyang from Ahsoka since he was the last skin I made.
After that it's time to google some reference pictures:
First I normally search on Google some reference pictures, giving preference for pictures of action figures of that character and promotional pictures.
After that I try to find pictures of every single detail of the character: his back, his waist, his legs and everything else.
Finally with our reference material selected and ready then is time to start make the skin
.
Here you can see the practical implications of each of the steps:

1• the Start (2D silhouette):
First thing in making a skin like this one is to establish the form that your skin will have.
.
2• Expand to 3D:
Then you have to expand to 3D. Making a copy from the front, pasting on the back (and modifying) and finally making the laterals.
.
3• The first draft:
In this step, your focus must be in the section of the body of the skin that you think needs more attention. For me the section is the head. And you already start choosing some provisional colors...
.
4• Start to make the texture:
In this step you will start making the first details of the texture. Starting for the chest and slowly going to the other members of the body of your skin.
.
5• Recolouring:
Now we're in the point that you already can imagine how your skin is gonna look when ready, so it's time to return to the reference materials and compare the colours. Trying to make an bridge between the colours you thought you would use and the ones of the character.
I don't use the exact same colours because of the shading. As I normally don't work with shading I try to keep the colour palette simple and imagine how the light would affect it. But if you like to use shading, this isn't the time to add it, you'll do it later in the 7th step
.
6• Continuing with the texture:
After establish the colour palette of your skin, you can freely work on the texture. As you progress you can add some more detailed textures.
.
7• Finishing the basic of the texture:
And now it's time, time to finally make your skin look like with the skin you started to imagine in the 5th step and is in this moment that you add the shading if you planned to do it.
.
8• Adding the final details:
And you thought your skin was ready? Not yet.
Now you add the elements of the character's appearance that you didn't added before and of course try to fix some stuff that is good but could be better. (Small details)
And now your skin is ready. Now you can use it and/or post it if you are a skinner like me.
.
And that's it...
I hope this tutorial was helpful to you, give a diamond and if you liked the skin you can check him out clicking here:
