Night Exploration Tutorial
Brought to you by SuperPro

Night is a beautiful thing. The stars shimmering in the sky, a perfect moon hovering in the sky... Hell no!!! Minecraft nights are horrifying. The groans and snarls of zombies wanting to have you for dinner, the dreaded hiss of creepers, the white of a skeleton's bone glimmering under the moon light of a square moon... because the moon is square. Night is a hostile time, when all things undead and ugly want to kill you, but with the correct training and preparation, everyone can brave the night.

1.Refreshed and Renewed
Remember to sleep the previous night before exploring so phantoms won't spawn. This can mean a lot between life and death. Bring large amounts of food and torches. Blocks and obviously, weapons, are necessary too. Cobblestone is a good choice. Weapons and tools should be at least iron and you should bring spare. A shield can be useful for blocking creeper and skeleton attacks. If you don't have one, dodge arrows carefully. When a creeper starts hissing near you, just place a block and it will absorb the damage. You don't have to prepare a lot unless you'll be exploring for several nights.

2.Pathfinder
Make sure to leave trails so you can find your way back to base. Use torches, signs, pillars of cobblestone or other ways that you will know and understand. If you're playing on a hostile SMP with enemy players, it is advised to make the trails less conspicuous. Otherwise, you'll just be leading the entire server to a free-for-all killing and looting at your secret base. Using maps and compasses to locate your base is also a must learn. You should also remember the coordinates of the base. Write it down or keep it somewhere so you can always find it.

3.Expansion
If you're like me, you'll probably like exploring for days on end, to far away places thousands of blocks away, meeting new people and finding rare structures. But what should you do when night comes and you don't have weapons? Well, you should build an instant shelter or outpost. Outpost are really useful, especially if you going on the same path more than once. You should build outposts every few hundred blocks and add necessities such as food, extra tools and items like torches. Adding a chest and some furnaces are a good choices. Directions back to your base is also a good idea. As where to build them, on trees and caves are a good idea. Make mob precaution defense like iron doors and arrow slots to shoot those pesky creepers. Outposts are of course best used at night or when you're almost out of items.

So that's pretty much how to survive the night. You can use either my techniques or think of your own. If you frequently visit my blogs, look out for new ones. Currently, I'm working on a PvP strategy to counter the Double Trident Strategy.
