What is that? I thought, staring at the strange, blue-clad figure. It was small, barely the size of one of my legs. Little pale bits  poked out of it, just barely darker than the end stone my island was made out of. Can’t be an enderman, they’re way darker. And it can’t be another dragon, it has no wings.
I stood up, swooping off the obsidian pillar I had been standing on, circling to the small bedrock bowl in the center of the island, watching the thing. It’s movements were so… robotic. His knees didn’t bend. His arms didn’t sway, they just chopped.
As it got closer, a word started to form over its head. RedWarrior956? Was that its name? Was that how it spoke? If so, why would it say that?
That’s when it finally looked up, seeing me hovering a few blocks away. The thing jumped back, a strange sight to see with how choppy its movements were, then pulled out a bow. A very shiny, purplish bow.
“What are you doing?” I asked it as an arrow appeared on the string. It didn’t respond, but it did fire the arrow.
The shot whizzed past my head, hitting the end stone a short distance away. “Um… I’m right here,” I told it. I looked back and saw that the arrow was on fire. “Oh, are you cold?” I continued. It seemed like a logical question at the time. After all, why else would fire be necessary? “Here.”
I breathed in before letting out a burst of purple flame, which hit the ground in front of the creature. That, however, seemed to freak it out even more, and it quickly ran away. What is it doing?
The next place it went to was one of the obsidian pillars. It pulled out some strange brown block, jumping and placing it beneath them.
“Hey, can I help you?” I asked it, flying over. A purple line appeared, connecting me to the crystal on top of the pillar. The relaxing warmth of it rushed through me as I hovered near the creature. It pulled out it’s bow again, shooting an arrow past me.   “Seriously, what are you doing?” It turned its head away and continued building.
“Okay, you’re ignoring me,” I continued. “That’s fine. What are you building with?” I approached the strange brown block, but as soon as I neared it the brown thing vanished, dropping the little figure to the ground.
“Oops!” I shouted, rushing down to try and catch it. But I arrived too late. The thing hit the ground and turned red, falling over.   “What the…” the creature disappeared, and a large pile of stuff appeared on the ground. I flew closer, landing and sniffing at the floating objects.
“Well that was weird,” I said to no one in particular.
An enderman screeching nearby was the only reply.
“Fine then,” I told no one in particular. “I’ll figure it out myself.”

---

My leads had burned out quickly. After all, the only clues I had were the little objects it had dropped when it vanished. I had decided to name it, and its species, Red, as that’s what the little thing floating above its head had said. RedWarrior-something.
I had almost forgotten about Red when it showed up again. It was wearing the same strange blue stuff as before, and it carried the same purple bow. This time, I chose to just watch it from a distance. That way, maybe I could see what it was up to without it reacting to me.
A voice suddenly rang through the End, speaking in a language I didn’t understand. What is that? A moment later, another figure appeared. This one had the word Rainbows467 hovering above it. Another one? With a different name too.
Red ran over to an obsidian pillar, using strange grey blocks to tower up. The Rainbows thing stood at the bottom, nocking an arrow and looking around. It looked ridiculous, with its strange movements, and I couldn’t resist the urge to laugh. The strange voice echoed across the End again, and another one, higher-pitched, replied.
Is that them talking? I thought, continuing to observe them from my spot behind one of the pillars. If so, what are they saying?
Red reached the top of the pillar, running over to the crystal in the center. Then it… broke the crystal.
I flew away, the explosion sending pain through my body despite how far away I was. I roared as Red was thrown off the pillar, but Rainbows placed a strange blue substance under it. It looked like no damage was taken.
Rainbows ran over to a pillar this time, using the same strange grey blocks to tower up. I chose to continue watching. Maybe it was an accident, I thought. I’m sure they didn’t mean to hurt me. But doubt was beginning to creep into my mind.
Rainbows reached the top and destroyed another crystal.
I roared again, flying even farther away. That had clearly been deliberate. They knew what they were doing. They really were here to hurt me.
“Will you quit it?” I shouted, flying closer to make sure they knew I was talking to them. The only response was Red pulling out its bow and firing an arrow at me.
It didn’t hurt much. After all, the thing was tiny, and it had been fired from far away. But it was all the evidence I needed.
“Fine!” I called through gritted teeth. “You want to fight? Let’s fight.”
I flew toward Rainbows, the lower voice ringing through the End again as I knocked it off the edge of another tower it had started building. It landed in the strange blue thing, however, then pulled out its bow and started firing.
I mashed my teeth together, trying not to scream as I flew closer and the arrows hit me, throwing fireballs at it. Rainbows was knocked out of the blue stuff, then vanished, dropping a few strange items the way Red had before.
  Red destroyed another crystal.
The pain made me roar again, and I quickly flew over to Red and knocked it off the pillar. It vanished, flashing red, and dropped a few items.
I was safe. For now. But I knew they would be back, maybe even with more of their type. How long could I last? As long as I’ll have to, I thought, determined. I would die defending this place if I had to.

Rainbows467 smiled, looking up and down the diamond and obsidian pillar she had created. RedWarrior956 would log on any minute now, and Rainbows was confident that he would be happy with the results of her tiny three by three build.
She looked around the room, admiring all the items they had gotten from different mobs. A ghast tear from the nether. Some redstone from a witch. Even something as small as a little rotten flesh from a zombie. Items that she and Red had earned.
He suddenly appeared beside her, joining the voice chat she had been waiting in.
“You ready for this?” Rainbows asked, her smile growing larger.
“Well duh,” Red replied. “We already took care of the hard part.
“Yeah,” Rainbows laughed. “You died five times!”
  “You did too!”
  “Uh, I died four.”
“Only because you weren’t there the first time!” The words might have been rude if Red hadn’t been laughing.
“Whatever,” Rainbows replied. “Would you like to do the honors?”
“Yeah,” he replied as he walked closer to the pillar. Red jumped, placing the object they had worked so hard to earn on top.   “Perfect.”
“Yep!” Rainbows smiled. “Onto the Wither?”
“Yeah!” Red replied. “Bet I can beat you to the room!”
“No way!” she replied, chasing after him as he ran down the hall. Before she left the loot room, though, she took one last glance at their reward. The ender dragon’s egg.
