§1-Geometry

How many grams of mass can fit inside of a Minecraft chest? A very impractical question but one which I wish to answer once-and-for-all! Our chest will be full of riches, and mass, and we might even end the universe in a black-hole (but only if we’re lucky)! Also, I’ve split this blog into 3 sections, since this one switches topics mid-way through.

First of all, let’s get into some geometry. How much volume is in a chest? Volume is equal to the sum of the length, breadth and height of an object, in this case, our chest.

A chest is not, however, a standard metre height. The chest is only 14 pixels high, and 16 wide and 16 long. Assuming that the walls are 1 pixel thick, we can say the interior of the chest is 13(15^2) pixels^3. Sadly, as much as I would love it, Minecraft pixels are not part of the scientific standard of measurements. A chest is 1m^3, and that means that we can simply divide 100 by 16 to get the number of centimetres a pixel is equal to, which is 6.25 .

I’m grateful that the dividend is not a messy number full of random vincula and such, instead being a simple 6.25 .

Taking away the walls and lid from the shape, we get the sum of 2,925cm^3 and doing some more fancy maths to find the volume, we get 714,111.32cm^3.

I’m not going to go in-depth on the process of finding the volume, as by now I’m pretty sure you all know how to find it–should you wish to fact-check my work though, you may.

§2-Finding volume and density

Going back to my older theory about how strong Steve is, we know that gold is the heaviest block in the game, and when made into Netherite, it gets 4 times heavier. Well, it turns out gold is also dense. The densest element is copernicium, however, the densest element in MINECRAFT is gold, sitting at 19.32g/cm^3 .

Once we add netherite, we get a final number of 77,280kg/m^3 .

The formula for mass is M=D/Vo , where M is mass, D is density and Vo is volume. We have found both our density and out volume, and if we fill out of equation we get the following:

77280/0.714111=108218.47

Thus, our final number is 108,218.47kg/m^6
§3-Relativity

Okay, this section probably could use a better name. This isn’t about the theory of relativity. This is about how much 108,218.47kg/m^6 actually weighs. It’s awfully difficult to comprehend how much that weighs, unless one has a relative object to compare it to.

The sun has a mass of ≈2⋅10^30 kilograms, and takes up ≈99.86% of our solar system. The smallest black hole that we have ever discovered is known as XTE J1650-500 (imagine naming your child THAT lol), and has almost 3 times the mass of the sun.

Anyway, in conclusion, no, our chest would not be able to create a black hole. Our chest could, however, create a bomb that would be the equivalent to several tonnes of TNT., obliterating several kilometres in every direction of me, killing not only me, but everyone else in the area! MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

But that still isn’t as massive as ur mum, happy April Fool’s Day!
