Heidi's tips for Minecraft skinning!
Now, I'm not best at skinning myself, but I have learned a lot, so I have some tips for you!
Don't insult your skins, such as "My skins suck :( " because that gives the impression your probably looking for attention.
For people to like your skins, you have to like them first! And even if you don't like it yourself, don't say its terrible. Other people might like it!
This is just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't add lips.
Most people do add lips, but they are like two little pixels. Some people add whole mouths, but it kinda looks strange with the skin, doesn't it? But if you like to do that, that's fine!
Fill everything!
Make sure you draw texture on the inside of the arm, or legs, the parts you don't really see! (If your using NOVASKINS) Because when you run or walk, you will see it, and it just looks strange.
~Shading~
I don't really shade, because honestly, I'm not really that good. Hah, but here are some programs I would suggest for shading!
GIMP - A free drawing program.
I really don't recomend gimp at all. I've had many problems with it. But it has good tools, and keeps the background transparent, you your skins face doesnt appear black/white over the hat. That's key to good skins also!
Paint.Net - A free drawing program.
It doesn't have many tools, but I highly recomend this. It is great for drawing, and making stuff bigger or smaller with out the annoying pixels!
Paint Tool Sai - A drawing program.
I am not sure if you have to buy it or not, because I got mine for free. But it has a lot of great tools, that I'm sure can make your skins look cool. But it doesn't keep the background transparent, so you might have to go and fix that.
Any program that provides layers can be very helpful to skinning!
