What is the meaning of troll? Well there are two main meanings, one being a nasty little bearded fellow living under a bridge (found that out by watching Dora the Explorer) and there is also the even more nastier (possibly bearded) fellow(s) that dislike content for no reason at all, just for the giggles. Well today, it's your lucky day, we get to talk all about them!
Why Do We Care So Much About Trolls?
Trolls are people that NO ONE can stop talking about (including me). Think of it this way, even if you've never had the experience of facing a troll in your life before, I guarantee at one point or another YOU will. Here is a nice example, you just upload a project of some amazing European Castle that took you about two weeks to do. You get loads of downloads, up-votes, even favorites. Yet, there are these five trolls that get on that submissions and purposely down-vote it, once again, just for the giggles. They don't realize/don't care how long it took you to finish that submission and how much work you put into it and they don't realize/don't care how much they damage it with their one single dislike. The way dislikes and likes work here on PMC is pretty simple, yet can get quite annoying. Even if you have over 25 likes and only 5-9 dislikes, those dislikes CAN damage your submission from appearing on the highlight reel of that certain category. Some people say they shouldn't care about the highlight reel, which I sometimes agree, but if you REALLY put in that much work for any submission, you DEFINITELY deserve to be put on the highlight reel where people see your submission a lot more.
Why Do They Get Amusement From This?
No one knows exactly why people do this, yet most people think they do this either for the giggles, they are jealous or they want revenge/hate that person so they dislike all their content. That is the most immature way to handle ANY of your situations and these people don't realize that. Think of it from a real life stand point, if you decided to create a law, it got looked over and it unanimously got vetoed, and you then plot to take revenge on the houses, that is not only immature, but you will get in trouble. Obviously in the virtual world it's not as serious, but still as annoying. Honestly, before you start trolling anyone, think of this, would you want to have people dislike any of your content?
How Do We Stop Trolls?
There is no cure for trolls, they appear ANYWHERE. It's a disease with no treatment/cures. However I can tell you this, without trolls we would have a utopia society and that literally is not possible, so if you really want to think about it, trolls do have SOME type of "use." The best way you CAN stop them, is plain and simple. Ignoring. Just ignore the dislikes and enjoy how many supporters you have of your submission because that is what matters most, not the amount of dislikers you have trolling all over your content.
Do We Remove The Dislike Button?
Short and simple, no. Removing the dislike button would be quite frankly, a very bad idea, because sometimes submissions really DO deserve dislikes. Either it's spam, or stolen content, or just overall a bad submission, it definitely deserves a dislike or two before it is removed. Plus, like I said before, if you have a couple dislikes, but you have more likes and favorites, don't worry at all about those pesky dislikes. The more you worry about it and complain about it, the more people will dislike your content. Especially if you announce that you hate dislikers. Sadly, this blog is talking all about them, so I won't be surprised about how many dislikes I get on this. Either way back on topic, Cyprezz also made an interesting blog about this that I advise all of you to read if you want some more information about the topic. You can see the blog here.
Conclusion
Overall, just brush off those pesky dislikers and you will definitely be fine. They are like bullies, the more you don't care and ignore them, the faster they will go away and stop disliking your content. Thanks for reading, and may the trolls NOT be with you.
