At long last, I can announce a new mod I'm working on.
It's a mod that adds buildable and pilotable ships into the game!
This isn't your average "ships" mod. A lot of coding work went into building technology that makes the ships behave realistically in Minecraft's blocky world. Check out the video above to see the ship building process in action.
Now that this proof-of-concept technology demo actually works, I'll start building a fully-featured mod for ships. The raft you see in the video is just the beginning. Using this basic tech as a starting point, I can add sailable ships that actually float, submarines that explore the ocean deep, and even airships that fly through the clouds.
All the ship mechanics are based on efficient physical simulations, so it may take a couple of tries to build a ship with the buoyancy/propulsion properties you want. No worries though. You can always unbuild your ship, make some tweaks, and try again.
